Mike Tyson: The biggest Myth of all time.
Dead serious.
I say almost every ATG heavyweight would beat Mike prime for prime.
The myth of Tyson being unstoppable is just that.
His "prime" era in which he fought absoloutley nobody except a who's who of the ghetto crackheads who made up the worst top 10 in history in the late 80s.
His style always had a lot of flaws to it, it required tremendous energy that even a young Tyson couldn't maintain consistently for more than a few rounds. After a few rounds it became the same routine, load up a big shot and fall in.
When fighting holyfield 1, Mike was still in his prime and looked as good as ever, but holyfield beat him up. How?
Half of Mike's strength was intimidation, he scared the 80s crack heads who he fought, but Evander didn't give a **** about his reputation.
As soon as Mike got hit head on by a tough guy he soon folded. Mike was given no space to work, most of his fights were literally against heavy bags who let Mike do whatever he wanted.
You can go back and see other guys like bone crusher and razor who were just OK heavyweights but weren't scared of Mike and made him look human.
Tyson was an overrated rapist, with no brain and no heart. He was mostly an illusion. Don't get me wrong he was a good heavyweight, but that's all, not a great, he NEVER came back from adversity to win, he didn't have it in him.

The discipline wasn’t there down the line. His discipline for the head movement, the jab, his footwork was different. In boxing, inches makes all the difference and so all the little subtle movements he made in his prime aren’t there.
He was no longer perfect and to fight that sort of style, you had to be perfect. Here’s a clip of how Cus wanted Mile to be perfect.

You can talk about his opponents all day long, but all you had to do was actually take a look at the man himself, how he moved, the power was able to generate in his punches etc.
Its in a similar vein of watching up and coming UFC stars. Everyone knew Khabib was gonna maul his way through the division after watching him fight 2-3 times. Same with Islam, Topuria, Tsarukyan etc. You can literally see the same thing happen in real time in MMA.The opponent doesn't need to be world class in order for you to see how formidable the fighter in question is.
TLDR: Your argument is null and void.

Pretty sure that Bonecrusher Smith, Frank Bruno, Trevor Berbick, Larry Holmes & Michael Spinks were not random crackheads. Tyson was not in his prime in the 1990's-he had spent years in jail, his ego/coke sniffing was out of control, wasn't taking training seriously etc. There is a reason he lost to Buster Douglas in 1990.

Tyson is definitely significantly overrated by boxing casuals.
His biggest win was Spinks, who was a great fighter, but still a jumped up light heavy.
Tyson did have GOAT talent, so who knows how he would have done if he didn't embrace the degenerate lifestyle, but given that we can only judge the Tyson we got, he is not in the upper upper echelon of heavyweights.

Tyson never beat anyone good. Lost bouts in humiliating fashion where he was a 42-1 favorite, 9-1 favorite, etc. Overrated.

Never been a boxer who passes the "Eye test" more than Tyson.
Mother fuker looked mean, fast, and powerful. I have no idea how to really judge boxing skill, I'm a casual, but Tyson more than any boxer I've seen in the ring made me feel that "Fuark I wouldn't want to be in the ring with that man" feeling.
Overrated? No clue. Best ever? No clue.
But those "bums" Tyson put down weren't falling like chopped fuking trees from gut punches to other pro's. Anyone who fought Tyson pretty much said he was the hardest hitter ever.
Man was exciting AF to watch. I don't care who is better. I watch boxing to be entertained. And it was hype af any time he had a fight.

Honestly most of his fights ended so quickly it is hard to judge his true ability-when they did go a fair way or the distance it was obvious he isn't one of the best technical or savvy fighters ever, but he is I think the most devastating/dangerous.

Lewis had it all, the height, the reach, the fluidity, the jab, the combinations, the power, the stamina, the ring IQ, the ability to fight dirty and be a bully. It was all there.
The truth is the American boxing fraternity, especially back then were loathe to give Lewis any credit whatsoever. You watch almost any of his fights and the commentary is horrendously biased against Lewis, Michael Grant fight is the most hilarious example of this as they are hyping up grant all the way until lewis knocks him down for about the 17th time to end the fight.
Lewis literally only got any credit when he retired.
Lewis has on his resume Vitali klitschko, Evander Holyfield x2, Mike Tyson, David Tua, Shannon Briggs, Andrew Golota, Ray Mercer, Razor Ruddock, Tommy Morrison, Frank Bruno, Tony Tucker.
That's an insane resume but yeah people still want to talk about tyson because he ko'd Spinks, an old Larry Holmes who was on the couch for 2 years and had 1 month to train, and Joe Fraziers disabled son.
The casuals, and there are many in this thread know very little about boxing, about Mike Tyson or his opponents, they make all their opinions off little 5 minute youtube highlight videos.
Any of them who want to actually know REALITY, I suggest this almost 3 hour breakdown of Tysons entire career, and you'll see how laughably overrated this guy is.

Lewis also had Tyson pegged from early on but didn't get a chance vs him until many years later.
These guys understood that if they navigated the early rounds which they were both capable of, Tyson wasn't much of a fighter past 4 or 5.
Someone used the word talent to describe Tyson and that's what he had, what he did not have was a brain or a heart, if he couldn't overwhelm you with physical talent, there wasn't anything there.

Most people who following boxing would agree he was overated especially by casuals..
Due to his style and fear he put into opponents
But he barely makes a top 10 HW ATG list tbh
Guys like lewis, Foreman and Holyfield who were around in his era rank above him
