Someone's targeting my business writing fake reviews. Google is useless. Advice?

I haven't had a 1 star review at my business in a couple years, and all of a sudden 2 completely vague, brand new users, made up names (last name on one of them is Geometry), are leaving reviews. Zero details, we've had no upset customers, and we simply don't do this kind of work, which is why we never get 1 star reviews.

Google is USELESS and when i flagged to have it reviewed, the said they found nothing wrong.... with a user with the last name Geometry, 2 total reviews in 2 years, and when you google the name, there's some youtube channel that makes no sense with like russian print in the background.

What can I do to protect myself? Google already reviewed and won't take down such an obvious case of spam/bot/fake reviews, so now what? Any tech people have any ideas? It already dropped my rating down a point.

I'm really not sure, OP, but I'm not surprised to hear Google is useless. It's like Ebay. All the power is with the buyer now.

Can you respond to the negative reviews? Write something along the lines of that this review is random, is not a customer you've had, etc? At least, if someone is seeing these negative reviews, and they see your response, they might get a sense that it's not actually anything you did? I've seen this before.

Reply to the review. I have more respec for business when they reply to negative ones, unless it’s the canned garbage.

Google gives you the option to respond to reviews. Also you can somewhat counteract it by stimulating your happy customers to leave a review. I have 182 reviews on my business with a 4,9 star average. I wouldn't even notice a few random 1 star reviews.

I haven't entirely given up on reviews, but from what I've read over the years, there is a good business at writing poor reviews against competing companies. I believe of late Amazon has been the latest company saying they are going to do more to stop fake reviews. I'm not holding my breath on that. I believe I've read of companies suing people over fake reviews.
