Handful of NFL players dun phucked up

A handful of NFL players, including Indianapolis Colts cornerback and kick returner Isaiah Rodgers, are expected to receive season-long suspensions this week for violating the NFL's policy on gambling, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

Rodgers is the subject of a league investigation into possible violations of the league's gambling policy, including possible bets placed on Colts games. Rodgers acknowledged the situation on social media earlier this month, saying he takes "full responsibility" for his actions.

The NFL said last week that it planned to reinforce its gambling policy to players. All rookies will now be required to attend mandatory education sessions, and a group of league officials is making in-person visits to team facilities to emphasize and clarify what activities are prohibited amid the rapid proliferation of sports gambling.

Pretty sure going back to the late 1800's you had a lot of pro athletes doing the same thing. Some got caught, most didn't.

Meanwhile the league remains heavily bankrolled by DraftKings, FanDuel, etc lol. Definitely no conflict of interest there when it comes to the integrity of the game and officiating on the field

These guys are stupid enough to bet on their own sports and THEIR OWN TEAMS when they could gamble on millions of other things. In Vegas you can literally bet on if the next pitch is a ball or a strike. Just bet on basketball, baseball, hockey, tennis, lawn bowling.

So there's two subsets of groups suspended. Those who STUPIDLY did the above. And those who placed bets on games in other leagues (primarily betting on CFB and their school) who did so from locations they shouldn't. There's a large grey area for "team facilities" whereby if the team is on the road at the hotel thats considered a "team facility" and betting is illegal. If the home teams player was at the same location, thats legal. Thats where some of the confusion is from.
