Nothing but problems with my LG cx since it updated
Maybe a month or two ago my LG cx got the update for the complete new layout that the c2/c3 have. Awesome, or so I thought.
-Tv randomly shuts off, won't turn back on until I pull the power from the wall. It's almost like it's related to the wifi issues listed below. Sometimes when the wifi drops and the screen pauses it just shuts off and can't be turned on with the remote.
-os feels much slower. Not sure if the c2 or c3 have more powerful processors but this os is way worse than the older one on my TV.
-wifi drops constantly, literally bought another nighthawk mesh satellite just to put next to the TV so I could stick an ethernet cable in
-Magic remote pointer didn't work for like an entire week, just froze up instantly. Seems to have worked itself out. Was annoying tho because I'm like trained on the magic remote now.
My recommendation to any cx owners is to avoid doing any or updates. I am not pleased at all, this tv went from perfect to absolutely annoying as hell with 1 update.
I believe I am still under warranty thru Costco since they do like 5 years or something so i may take advantage of that

Can't you download the older firmware and install thru USB?
I never updated mine. Works perfect out of the box for me. It doesn't use wifi even, my phone already listens to me 24/7 so I dont want my tv to also record what's happening in my bedroom lol

Update - hilarious that I made this thread just generally complaining, then almost immediately after had major issues come up.
It was so much worse today, my tv just kept freezing and shutting off and cycling on and off until it would not turn back on until I unplugged it from the wall and replugged. I thought my tv was basically bricked, it would work for 10-40 minutes then do this over and over.
I found a reddit thread (forgot to save the link, can't find it now ofc) of a bunch of people describing my exact issue. Basically the consensus was needing to redo thermal paste or Change out the motherboard.
So the entire time this was happening today, I was watching the apex legends Lan tourney on the twitch app. I never use twitch on my TV, usually about twice per year when I watch the apex major.
So the twitch app was legit causing this to happen. No idea why. The broadcast ended and I've been watching YouTube and Hulu with no issues, I even just let the TV run through some shows on Hulu in the background all day to see if it still happened, and nothing.
Idk wtf. Seems to be fine now.
Also I found in the settings a way to change the layout back to the old pre update layout and it runs better.

Damn, thats fukkin crazy.
Is it just for the CX models or all the oled models? I got an update about a week or so ago for my C9 but I haven't bothered updating it. Seems like with tv's these updates break stuff than fix it.
Still OLED crew for life though.

Never update any television or phone I’ve ever owned, always lasts years & years. Have an LG OLED as well, less than a year old and already asking to update..not gonna happen. If it ain’t broke, doesn’t need to be fuked with.

The member service manager there now was one of my employees when I was the photo lab manager and she used to love me dead srs cause I was the most fun boss and never wrote anyone up (I was high af most of the time - shocker)
But I'm also considering just buying a new TV this weekend and taking my chances on reapplying the thermal paste or replacing the motherboard on my cx. If that works then I can keep it and use it in my game room and replace my 55" Vizio that's old as dirt and a piece of chit.

Sony only TV I'll buy
B4 that was Panasonic
Japanese, just like cars
I also don't have it connected ,my firestick is connected
Even the more and more bloat on my stick is starting to piss me off
Sh I can't delete and somehow accumulates cache while never being used
A new stick is cheap enough should the need arise
Mfers would download to your underwear if they could
Stay the f off my TV

LG To Offer Subscriptions For Appliances And Televisions
"LG will innovate with a platform-based service business model that continuously generates profits, such as content and services, subscriptions and solutions, to the hardware-oriented businesses, which generate sales and profits at the time of purchase," the company said on Wednesday. LG called this a "customer engagement" centered business model that relies on appliances already present in customers' homes, such as 200-million strong fleet of its smart TVS currently already in use. Those tellies, including the premium end OLED and QNED TVs, will soon have content, services and product ads expanded in an attempt to turn the company into a media and entertainment service provider.
LG has already offered a taste of its intentions: in 2022 it revealed a scheme called "Evolving Appliances For You" that promised software upgrades to home appliances. The company offered the example of a family that moves to a different home, and different climate, and upgrades its clothes drier with routines suited to local conditions. The entrance to subscription media comprises part of what CEO William Cho described on Wednesday as a transformation for LG to a "smart life solutions company," a goal he's hoping to hit by 2030.
Nooope, this type of schit should be illegal, and appliances/TVs need to go back to being dumb. The problem with the no update thing, at least for the cx and I'm sure many tvs going forward is that sometimes the updates are important. I would usually look up the update/patch notes before installing.
Sometimes the updates are needed, like the time an update was meant to fix issues with e-arc audio sync which I had with my Xbox. There was one to fix dolby vision gaming not automaticallu turning on game mode. You get the idea.
I don't think completely not updating your tv is smart these days, sometimes the updates are essential, but overall if you don't have issues then sure don't update your tvs. But I utilize e-arc and dolby vision gaming so I wanted those updates.
The more I have researched this issue isn't even related to updating like I initially thought it was. Yes, The new os they updated with felt more sluggish, but I found the option to change back to the old one and it's fine again in that sense.

It's just an excuse to make a little project out of it then keep the TV for my game room. I wouldn't mind an oled in there but I don't use the TV enough in there to care to buy a new TV for that room. It's mostly just for the racing sim. If I can get it working proper again the cx is still way better than my Vizio that's only 4k/60hz and a VA panel so it's a huge upgrade for the pc setup.
I want a 77 for the living room anyways, I originally bought the 65 cause I didn't think the 77 would fit well mounted above my fireplace, but I ended up taking the TV off the wall anyways because I didn't like the high up angle
I just wanna have my cake and eat it too

That's the thing I hate about a lot of these new standards/tech where they are supposed to synchronize with one another, but wind up getting broken or something goes awry so you're forced into figuring out what is going wrong or wait for the company to do what the thing should've done out of the box.
Pretty much why I don't like to update anything because once Idoget it working, god help me if I have to troubleshoot what new monkey wrench got thrown into the mix.
The problem with a ton of these companies across all industries is that their software side is abysmal, so they're more prone to screw at the very least one thing up in the attempt of fixing something else.

Another update. Tv has been pretty much unwatchable all weekend, most of today it wouldn't even stay on for more than 10 minutes.
Decided to try different inputs.
Firestick = same deal, busted
Chromecast = busted
Xbox series x = worked all night, watched a movie without any issues.
Dunno what the deal is really. Xbox seems to work for now, hasn't done it all night since trying that.
Might try the PS5 tomorrow to see if it works too but not sure if it's even worth it. I'm kinda at the if ain't broke don't fix it stage for now.
Gunna call Costco in the morning but probably just going to get a new TV regardless. But I'm Def out of warranty so it's up to them if they want to do me a favor or not.
Link to the reddit thread I found describing by exact issue in case anyone's interested. There are other similar threads out there also.

From everything I've heard, LG is a lot like Samsung, and my mum had to go through some real grief with them over a lemon refrigerator and at least got a prorated refund for her efforts. Costco is much better to deal with, so hopefully they can throw you a bone.

Only through some miracle does it occasionally have an error where it can't connect to the servers, so all I see are the application icons instead of the usual ad cancer.

This story is going to sound bizarre, but my 65 cx panel decided to brick ,but I had the extended warranty.
They replaced the panel with a c1 upgrade but utilized the rest of the chassis . Anyways the strange part was after I got it back it would shut down every 15 minutes or so. I would turn it back on with the remote ,then you’d get another 15 minutes to watch .
If I unplugged the oled for a half hour than power it back up , I could watch it with no problems for a day or if your lucky a week .
Weird part is, my elite remote from Logitech has been discontinued, so I thought screw it , and removed the Logitech hub and stopped using the remote .
And now my oled never turned off on its own again . Never thought the Logitech remote or hub was shutting my tv off randomly.
Why power cycling the oled made a temporary difference I’ll never know
