Anyone ignore jury duty post card?
Wtf is this chit? Had this like 12 years ago and it was an absolute waste of an entire day. I was raging because I'm self employed and wasn't about to waste time submitting paperwork to get monetarily redeemed.
Think I'm just gonna toss it in the trash. What happens then?

I always send it back and in the excuse box I write I dont own a car, I am a fulltime caretaker of a family member with a disability and taking public transportation is a financial burden lol

I tossed them in the trash for many, many years. Figured they could never prove that I actually received it in the first place.
Always told myself that when I am retired and have all the time in the world, I will serve as much as they want me to, doing my duty as an American citizen.
One day I got one of those "green card" things from the USPS in my mailbox, saying I had something being held at the Post Office that I needed to sign for.
Figured I won the "Publishers Clearing House" Sweepstakes or something. Big bucks on the way.
Went down, signed the card, and handed it over to the Post Office worker.
She brought me back a letter that said I need to appear for Jury Duty on a given date.
Decided they finally had me now (including signature), and went down on the appointed day.
There was a massive number of people there, on a Monday morning. I knew something was up.
It was a 5 victim homicide case. They had called a huge pool of possible jurors.
We were told it would involve a 2-month trial to determine guilt or innocence. Very complex case with lots of testimony, evidence, and lots of crazy stuff.
Followed immediately by a 1-month trial to determine death penalty or life imprisonment (if found guilty in the 1st trial of course).
That's what I get for throwing them in the trash for so many years. Karma's a bitch, as they say.
OP, you can perhaps request a release from service due to your self-employment and missed income. Particularly if it is going to a be a long trial, you may be able to serve for something shorter.

Just show up and during jury selection and act excited to be there like you want to be chosen then casually slide in the comment "So what degenerate scum do we get to put behind bars today?" You'll be dismissed for obvious reasons
Seriously though I think the worst that happens is you get fined. Looked it up once and it was like a maximum $500 fine. Completely worth it if it came to that imo. Depends on the state I think though

I often wait 3 months before I get the mail. It's always bills that I've prepaid for 6 months or a year in advance so no rush to get there and check it. Last year I had another jury duty notice and it was several months past since I was suppost to appear.
Never heard nothing about it. Over the years I've had 4 or 5 I guess.

You think they'll put you in jail or something for skipping out? They don't have time for that. You'll pay a fine that will be far less of a hit than the income you'd lose actually attending that horse sh*t. Odds are you won't even get fined though in reality.
