US Average Pay Worse Than The Depths Of The Great Depression
No, really.

^^^
Video is under 3 minutes and he shows his work.
But if you can't deal with twitter or a video...
Spoiler!
$100K a year still feels broke because inflation.

But if you can't deal with twitter or a video...
Spoiler!
Cliffs:
- in 1933 25% were unemployed and the average salary was $4,200 a year
- adjusted for inflation to 2022 that would be $95,000 a year
- in 1933 25% were unemployed and the average salary was $4,200 a year
- adjusted for inflation to 2022 that would be $95,000 a year
$100K a year still feels broke because inflation.

Why do you make all of these threads about income, salaries and taxes when you don’t work?
Are you justifying your decision to be broke and unemployed?

I knew that average incomes weren't keeping up with inflation.
But holy chit I didn't know it was that bad lol. The average 2022 USA income is $56k/yr, so the fact we'd want the average to be $95k/yr just to match the great depression is striking. And then that follow up about tax rates being only 8% back then wtf. Maybe it should be closer to like $120k+ then.
Paints the picture that we're in some kind of dystopia right now. But we're not panicking or rioting over it because we have distractions enabled via technology and drugs to sedate us.

I'm about as pro-MAGA as it gets but thats B.S. There are too many multimillionaires and billionaires in this country for the AVERAGE to be that low. Maybe the median income, sure as hell no the AVERAGE. You used a poor source.

Scrolled some comments after posting and there are claims that the average in 1933 was lower.
I've made other posts that reference now vs. 1970 or 1950.
No one argues against $4K in 1933 having the purchasing power of $95K today.

cheap to live in america once you pay for a house and don't carry debt. and i'm talking a small house like they had back then...which also means cheaper property tax/insurance/repairs/utilities.

Although they are correct in their research and I make these points all the time as well when dealing with your typical boomer making retarded comments, I am at the point where even I'm getting annoyed with everyone constantly complaining about this.
It's entirely one thing to notice the issues and show what's going on, but at a certain point I just have to ask....ok now what? If people are bringing this up for conversation of how to fix this, what to do, how to handle the issues, and whatever else....then that's completely fine. But most people now talk about this and are just looking for blame and to complain with zero discussion of solutions, goals, ideas or how to take back control of their finances and worldview to mitigate risk to these realities.
Imagine if I only complained about student loans and having debt while never even attempting to actually pay it off. I would still be in debt. I didn't just complain though so I took action to what I was complaining about.
As much as this economy sucks balls, we aren't doomed. You have to live in this world, but you don't have to life of it.

I understand about having little patience for people who whine and don't take action. Not everyone reaches that point at the same time. Some never get there.

Use median (not average) wage per person (no per household statistics) and use an average/median inflation number (Not the spike we are currently in) and report back

Average American is far better off in 2023 then during the great depression.
There are tons of places hiring. But people are lazy/****ty employees and don't want to work.
Hurr durr everything is expensive but I have an iphone, a macbook, a flat screen TV, obese as fukk because too much food. Etc.
Life in America is too freaking easy as long as you aren't lazy or retarded.

I believe it
Don’t forget about shrinkflation
Paying more for less
Property is the perfect example
In the 70s someone could get 1000sqm/3300sqft near the city for a reasonable price
Now land is 300sqm/1000sqft and relative to wages more expensive

The Federal Reserve was created in 1913.... So after 110 years of that chit, no one should be surprised by this.

total compensation (things you include aside from wages/salary like healthcare, 401k, etc) is at or near the highest it's ever been
https://www.statista.com/statistics/...yee-in-the-us/
guess what? u didn't get chit like healthcare and other benefits in the great depression. Or a long time after for that matter.
that's why these types of comparisons are retarded, and why social media often makes everyone dumber by spreading this kind of dumb chit

The only good thing about the laziness of Americans is, its so easy to be a mogger in today's society. Just a little bit of effort at 10 years of work and you can be top 5% in terms of income/wealth.

2] Not sure on that one. Plenty of reports of places keeping up signs and ads while not actually hiring and alternately places still trying to hire at 2018 wages in 2023.
3] Electronics are super cheap now and even more so if you have old/second hand electronics. Yes, lots of fat people from too many calories from low quality food and being sedentary.
4] It's relatively easy if you are in good health and have an in demand skill/credentials that will demand a good salary + health insurance or are able to succeed at self-employment or have enough mailbox money coming in.

No surprise whatsoever. I saw a stat recently that Millennials only account for 4.6% of the overall wealth in this country (mind you, the oldest of the generation are pushing 40 now). At the same point in their generation, which would've been 1989, Baby Boomers held 21.3% of the wealth.
We also have the 2nd most debt behind Gen X, although it's very close.
There's a reason everyone 20-35 years old walks around a depressed, miserable fkin mess. We'll never be able to own a house. We'll never be able to afford to support a family or raise children. That's why you see all these dog moms, incels, NEETs and bachelors. People are giving up.
In short, we're phucked.
