So if the average woman was 170 pounds in 2016 at 5 ft 4, then 187 pounds or an additional 3 pounds per year is within reason with no new charts published for 2022.

It is way to fat for any woman of any ethnicity when it used to be 135.

There is an youtube expert that says that Europe has banned 10,000 chemicals that we are allowed to consume. Assume that those chemicals, all ten thousand ,are wrecking all of us.

Actually there was a WHO report in 2022 that said that EU was experiencing an unprecedented obesity epidemic. The report said that 59% of adults and almost 1 in 3 children (29% of boys and 27% of girls) are overweight or living with obesity.

NYC checking in. On many things I have purchased over the past few years they are or were either prohibited for sale in California, or with a written warning e.g., carcinogenic, that under law is provided for those who live in California.

England and Australia are also having obesity problems. They're not far behind the USA.

The obesity problem started in the 1980s, which correlates with the rise of gaming, fast food drive thrus, and mass TV/cable advertising.

European countries have their own obesity epidemic.

Anyway, it's a combination of a lifelong, ****ty diet and sedentary lifestyle.

So many 5 year olds eat like ****, playing minecraft all day.

I've seen way too many individual accounts by people who claim that they gain weight when they visit the US and then drop it when they go back to Europe.

It's everywhere. IIRC the ME has very high rates of obesity too.

That is a heckuva an article.
The proposed adjustments move the obesity cutoff up from the standard 30 to 31 for Black women (in her research letter, those assigned female at birth), down to 29 for Hispanic women and down to 27 for white women.

And while Stanford’s chart does not include Asian people, prior World Health Organization guidelines for Asian populations also place the obesity cutoff lower than the standard measure, at a 27.5 BMI.
Um, okay.

So the cutoff is increased a little for blacks [+1] and decreased for Hispanics [-1]. But for white women the obesity cutoff is lowered by 3 points from 30 to 27? Even lower than the proposed cutoff for Asians?

So who is racist again here???

Of course they could just use waist circumference or body fat percentage, but that wouldn't create a lot of PC BS.

That's why it cracks me up when people from the UK, do the typical "Fat" Americans line.

Are they that ignorant, that they believe obesity only exists in the US?

There are actors who literally go to Italy, and indulge, when they have to get fat for a movie.

I would say there is a rather obvious difference between someone intentionally indulging in rich food to gain weight vs. someone who is native to a European country [or has lived there for a year or more] who says they spent a holiday in the US and ballooned up while not trying to. Often they report that they don't feel well eating US foodstuffs also.

It may not be all food related. Some could be that the US is more car centered in general vs. walking and public transportation.

It all depends what you plan on doing while on vacation. Do you intend to pig out and party? Or walk around see the sights, go bike riding, go hiking, etc.

Lack of movement coupled with extremely palatable food choices… it blows my mind how easy it is to stay lean by just adding in walks to the daily routine
