For Miscers Interested In A Male Friendly Therapist

Because I saw the thread asking if therapy is useful or BS and this thread showed up in my feed which reminded me of him.

He doesn't embrace a "lifetime victim" model.

And recognizes that men need different things from therapy than women.

His main focus is attachment and relationships. Link to quoted thread:

He has been interviewed by Chris Williamson a few times which is how I came across him.

What he states about men makes sense about a purpose, a mission, a power. You see posters on here like BBMG who have lost that purpose.

Miscers don’t really understand what therapy is for. They have this idea that a therapist is supposed solve your problems and if they don’t, they’re a quack.

That’s not what therapy is.

Our primary relationships (relationships with our parents and siblings) contribute greatly to how we as individuals form as people.

A lot of kids are growing up in broken and/or abusive homes. Because of this abuse (physical/sexual/emotional) or missing parent, the child ends up acting out in destructive patterns as they age.

Boys tend to act out violently and perpetuate abuse.

Girls tend to act out destructively and seek out new abusers to fill that role.

Because of abuse they suffered in their childhood, these children also grow up with a “broken antenna” so to speak. They have no ability to distinguish healthy behaviors and relationships vs unhealthy ones and are often even attracted to unhealthy relationships because that’s all they know.

A therapist - at least a good one - is really just a person that you can establish a safe relationship with. Real therapy typically takes 3-5 years to actually take effect. The point of the therapy is for these people to try to LEARN how to have a healthy relationship with someone in a safe/controlled atmosphere. Something they didn’t learn in childhood.

Yes, I believe that is a main focus of his therapeutic method FWIW. Understanding your personal attachment style, why it is like that, and how it works [or doesn't] in relationship with other people.

It's a good interview with Chris.

Yeah probably all based on Allan Schore - Modern Attachment Theory.

I don’t really read this stuff, I just used to listen to Loveline with Dr Drew and Adam Carolla daily when I was young and listen to all this stuff play out live on the radio.
