how many more times will you see your parents

I’ve done the math and it’s about 875 more times


I see them probably 35x a year (basically once a week for a few hours but miss some weeks here and there)

they’ll live another 25 yrs or so

My dad went to bed one night a couple of years ago and came out around 11pm with a sore arm.....2 mins later I was doing CPR, pretty sure I broke his ribs.

That was the last time I saw him, I thought I had about another 1000+ times.....he was 60.

Moral of the story is, treat every meeting like your last.

When I see the 'rents it's something that happens altogether as a group (they live together). They live close by, but I do value my alone time and they respect it, we probably meet up 12-15 times a year. Some of those visits are multi-day, so I think it's not crazy to say 15-20 days a year for me.

The fact my dad's still alive is a bit of a surprise to some doctors, he has had multiple ER visits, including a couple last year. I'd like to see him survive another 5 good years, but could be more or less. He doesn't drink much, but eats like a glutton without exercise and suffers health issues as you can imagine.

Mom could survive 30+ years to be honest. Her parents did and she rarely drinks and never smokes... though she does take some worrisome prescriptions (depressants) by choice for mental/emotional stuff.

I'd say 50+ upcoming days to spend with my dad. 500+ days for my mom.

I hate to tell you but after you left I moved in. I satisfy your mom and help your dad with chores. They have left everything to me. I am going to hate to lose them, sad to think of

My Mom is in a nursing home on hospice care so it could be one time or hundreds of times as she still continues to eat some.

My Dad is in better shape although he has a lot of health conditions. It’s hard to know how long he will be here. I see him 1-2 times a week to help him pay his bills.

Sometimes it’s scary that with my daughter leaving for college and parents near the end of their life, what will that mean in the future in terms of family?
