I don't see any bodybuilders train high volume anymore like Arnie did. All of them seem to be doing one set to failure.

You only need like 1-2 exercises per muscle group per week. I’d still do at least 4-5 set each though. Just to really make sure you stimulate growth

I'm doing 5 days a week, 5 different exercises each session (so 5 different shoulder exercises for example), 5 sets each exercise all to failure each set.

seems to be working the best from what I've tried over the years.
If she vapes, bin her off.

If she smokes, light it up.

Roll on the weekend, sorted.

I've personally been following a general Mike Mentzer/Dorian Yates heavy duty/high intensity training protocol for almost a decade now. I'll focus on heavy compound movements with good range of motion in my gym and usually do something like 2 warmups, 2 working per exercise. I do little isolation work.

There's really no point exhausting yourself doing a fuk ton of volume if you're natural, in my opinion. I believe Arnold and the old schools dudes would do a bunch of volume in the AM and the PM since they were on substances that allowed them to recover quickly therefore allowing them to get more training sessions in and grow more substantially. Seems like a lot of work.
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

Do you mind posting what your split looks like a bit? Also how many times do you go to the gym a week?

I have a feeling Arnold exaggerated big time when he talked about his workouts. Make himself appear larger than life, saying that he was in the gym 4 hrs a day....

It’s how I train now

I’ve found that high volume workouts take forever to complete, take too long to recover from, leads to injury, and have never made me stronger

1 or 2 sets to failure does the trick
Best lifts:
Bench press: 315x5
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 205x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

It's shifted a lot over the years, so what I'm doing nowadays is really not representative of my entire journey. At one point, I was doing PPL style 3 days on, 1 day off. Similar split to now but I'm doing 50% of that now. At the moment, it'll be something in line with a push/pull/legs focusing on compounds in my gym. For example:

Pull:
Weighted chinups
T-bar rows
Deadlift/rack pull
EZ bench curl

Push:
Incline press
Flat press
Military Press
Side lateral raise
Skullcrushers

Legs:
Back squats
Stiff-legged deadlifts
Standing calf raise

That's a pretty typical split. I'll warmup twice then hit 2 heavy working sets till failure if I'm aiming for a challenge/hypertrophy. When I cut 120 days out of the year in the late winter/spring, I stop one rep short of failure and do more of a reverse pyramid thing, focusing on heavy reps in the 5-8 range.

Probably not a good idea to follow their training principles if longevity is your goal.
There is but one path....we kill them all.

Makes sense for bodybuilding. I find 5x3 pretty ideal for building strength though.

Stimulate, don't annihilate.
