Starting MMA and self defense routine and workout this month

How long would it take me to get to a decent level skill ?

- I willing to give 5 hours max/week
- Will also train in gym everyday
- Will also train for mobility and cardio
- I want shotgun kicks like Joe Rogan *https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWC6x4Qqwe4*

Any miscer with experience or novice have any tips ?

You will progress at 5 hours a week but very slowly. Maybe this is a good starting point for you, but ideally you should be putting in at LEAST 10 hrs per week

I don't train MMA, but I do train BJJ.

Training 5 hours of MMA a week is actually great. If you are only training for self defense, then this will definitely help you. After 6 months you will feel powerful compared to others (although still the newbie at the gym). After a year, you will have accumulated a solid base of self-defense against the untrained normie. But keep in mind, even after a year of training, you'll still most likely be the newb of the gym (unless new guys have shown up).

If you want to compete and make this a career, then I'd agree with the first guy. 10 hours a week min.

Not sure how frequently an MMA gym covers kicks like Rogan does, but if they do not, check out Muay Thai for deadly kicks training.

The rogan sidekick can be achieved in a couple of months by someone with freak talent, good flexibility, muscle twitch etc. but some people will never achieve anything close to that. So, the rate of your progress depends on your genetics basically, as well as where that progress ultimately takes you.

As an example, I had an extremely good ax kick as well as front kick always, even before any kind of training, it’s simply because when I was young I was very flexible and athletic, but when it comes to back or Sidekick, I am horrible, and honestly, I don’t think any amount of training would make those kicks even decent for me, It’s just a height and bone structure.

In another example I have seen one former retired amateur MMA fighter dominate the UFC pro in training and the amateur could not do any kicks at all, because he was 400 pounds lol

You don’t want to do that bro. With Starfield around the corner and hitting GamePass day 1 you won't have time to train. By the time you're done with Starfield, Forza motorsport will hit along with the entire ABK catalogue...

Agree on your points if you are training in one specific style. But OP is doing MMA, so will need to spend extra time working all skill sets to be an effective fighter(Grappling, Takedowns, Striking/kicking, Defense). Of course, if he is just doing it for fun it doesn't really matter.

MMA is a mixed abomination.

Boxing is pure.

Watch Hajime No Ippo for 10/10 boxing anime.

If your main goal is to have powerful kicks, maybe just focus on Muay Thai or Kyokushin Karate. Or if you can find a club that practices full contact, Tae Kwon Do. (I wouldn't usually recommend TKD, but they have the most kick driven syllabus and Rogan used to do it)

Hey , I am not doing it for fun . I really want to be able to defend myself .
I haven't started training with an instructor , i have only browsed for a few routines on the web also I don't even know what art to pick up . People say Systema is the best or Jiu Jitsu is best for self defense , so I have to do homework first

You are right , I have always been amazed at the hitting power of boxers . I love it but have never thought people use it for self defense

Somebody actually told you systema was the best? JFC hahaha
Do yourself a favor and pick up a martial art that actually pressure tests the techniques and trains full contact. If you can find a Systema club that does that well and good, but I am willing to bet my left ball you wont.

I saw a video of this guy being cornered by 5 men in a store. The guy was backed up against the door. The guy in front of him pulled out a knife but the guy backed into the door KO'd him in 1 punch using a left hook. Then the guy ran out the door. The other 4 guys just stood there looking stunned by what just happened.

fuking troll or fuking idiot...one or the other

boxing has very limiting rules that do not simulate a real fight...no going to the ground. no grappling. no submissions. no throws. no takedowns. no kicking. the list goes on. If Nat and Jake were in a fight on the street or in the UFC, Jake wouldn't last 1 round. I'd put money on Jake not even lasting 1 minute.

its all about genetics, either you can fight and know how to wrestle and strike or you don't, and if you do then you can improve your speed, power, technique and cardio to be better

just look at brad, dude is "athletic" and fit and trained for how long and still was pure trash, threw punches like a girl and couldn't get his legs to work after getting hit once

most people just aren't cut out to fight, they can train and train and train but if you just don't have the natural ability and heart to fight then its over for you when faced with any sort of violence
money, cars, clothes and hoes is all a miscer knows

Assuming you're decently athletic, coordinated etc at six months or so you'll be able to handle most people out IRL.

Obviously you can't stop there because you start getting rusty.

The white Jake Paul was a high school wrestler.

I'd bet on the white Jake Paul.
