“There is a 1 in a Billion chance we are in based reality” - Elon Musk

This stuff has always interested me… How does everybody feel about that? One of the brightest minds in our society believes this existence is not even “real”

https://youtu.be/2KK_kzrJPS8

Myself personally I have experienced a lot of things over the last 10 years that makes me believe there is far more going on to all of this.

I have had about 3 dreams in my life that have come true exactly as dreamt.

I have had multiple instances where I have thought about someone who I have not seen or talked to in a very long time, and the same days after, they come into my life again.

I have thought about things I have never seen or experienced that then manifest themselves into my life.

I have seen specific signs regarding specific things that in ways that could not be a coincidence.

Does anyone have any thoughts or even experiences?

The world where the simulation is being run.

Unless they too, are in a simulation.

We could be hundreds of worlds away from base reality.

LOL @ OP calling it "based" reality.

He isn’t some super educated or intelligent physicist (only somewhat hue hue hue) and his statement is not based on researched fact.

It is just personal sentiment he has.

He is not an authority on the nature of reality, much more of a pop icon than anything.

I do not care what his personal opinions are.

LOL at Elon Worship.

Dude has proven himself a grifter time and time again.

Latest circus is his claim to challenge Zuckerberg to a fight which Elon will find a way out of after milking it for all its attention.

It’s the attention that allows him to grandstand later as some warrior for human evolution and higher truth.

Lol at those who fall for it.
Just LOL!

These kind of arguments are based on a false premise that you can reason your way to the truth of reality. The history of philosophy has shown this to be a path that gets one into trouble (countless examples throughout history; Plato's theory of forms, Hegels 'spirit', Leibniz monads), this kind of logical reasoning to the root of reality has been tried time and time again with differing results (often based on the originators sensibilities/time). 'Descartes daemon' is essentially the same idea, but in a time before computers.

Simulation theory, whilst it could be real, has no more chance of being real than a near infinite set of possibilities, so it seems odd to me to single simulation theory out of that near infinite set as somehow more likely. The reality is, we're men of our time and simulation theory is very much an idea 'of our time' and appeals to us because we're in the technological age, it's not really that different from religion or postulating God, just more modern in its terms but the basis is quite similar really.

As David hume illustrated (via Humes fork), armchair logic gives us abstract truths (i.e analytic truths; true by definition), but not necessarily facts about the world. To get facts about the world, you have to go out and gather data and infer from said data, but even those truths aren't 100% concrete, but a mere inference. Simulation theory doesn't really meet the challenge posed by Hume's fork, and i see no reason to privilege it over any other metaphysical theory of nature. Another point made in Humes work (on religion, but relevant), is the danger of drawing analogies as to the root of the universe we live in, based on our everyday experience of things (like cause-effect, which to Hume is simply a conjunction of events, a pattern we notice over time and call 'cause-effect', because certain effects are always found in conjunction with their causes). Since we only have one instance of the birth of the universe known, any analogy drawn seems futile because it is a singular event without a parallel, and so any analogy is likely to be flawed (such as one to video games).

Also, when the probabilities of simulation theory are calculated (like the one in the OP), they are based on grounding principles that are far from self evident; the most obvious one being that consciousness is a substrate independent process. It may be, but it's hardly something you can postulate a priori when consciousness still has so much unknown to us. Without this principle; there's no argument for simulation theory. The probabilities that are thrown out for simulation theory should have a disclaimer that they are contingent on a bunch of grounding principles being true that are far from self evident, and I've noticed this is nearly always overlooked by proponents of simulation theory. Simulation theory also leads to an infinite regress of realities, so as a theory it's not even very useful.

tldr; 'who knows'

Also, i like Elon, he's a smart guy (at least a few deviations above the average), but he's far from one of the brightest minds of our society. He's an undergraduate level engineer with great business knowledge who wants to help the world, but there's many guys who arefarbrighter right now such as Ed Witten, Alan Guth, David Deutsch etc..

I have schizophrenia and my voices have thrown all different types of origins of life story at me. They tell me I live in the second universe and life has existed before and we live in a simulation. My voices are pretty elite, they've predicted a lot of events in my life that have come true. I believe in intelligent design because of them. I've had them for 9 years so far. They introduced themselves one at a time, flashing me pictures of themselves in my minds eye. We communicate via flashing imagination to each other. Anyways, the more you know~

Its a philosophical point of view, but one that is based on quite a bit of research and science.

Before you dismiss it you should look into it yourself.

A man cooms ~100 million sperm per ejaculation. There's 2 eggs so that's a 50/50 chance the winning sperm gets to the left or right egg so now it's a 1/200million probability.

When you consider things like a woman's cycle / period, your mom's fertility chances at the time, your dad's fertility chances at the time, the fact your dad probably coomed multiple times during a given cycle, the chance of your existence as it is now is easily 1/billion or worse odds, etc.

If you're alive, perhaps there's also a based reality.

Simulation theory and multiverse theory are just copes for atheists to deal with the fine tuning of physical constants necessary for life to exist being precisely what they must be in this universe

There's 1 in a billion chance of that happening without a creator, unless you invoke infinite universes to explain it

Interesting post OP. I was just watching simulation theory last night:

Hearing all the theories and possibilities just nukes my mind into a higher dimension.

The mandela effect I never had any experience on it whatsoever. Deja vu on the other hand I had many instances of it and it fuks my mind to the core.

Well scientist argue the multiverse under the fact, the odds of the first big bang capable of producing life is probably astronomical, so we do indeed live in a multiverse. Life wanted existence and after many big bangs we came into existence.

Right, but the alternative is that it was intentional on the part of a creator who tuned all the physical constants. Plurality should not be posited without necessity, and it's only necessary without a creator.

I find the biggest issue people have is they don’t understand our inability to define what reality and consciousness even is let alone being able to understand the full characteristics of a “creator”. Which leads them to conjuring up images of sky wizards and framing things in an in appropriate flawed perception.

I’m not very religious but I don’t really see the difference between a religious belief in a g-d or a simulation theory.

Both basically are relying on a creator of our world and a higher power.

I personally do believe we live in some kind of simulation or predetermined world. When you look at humanity and human behavior, you can see the micro and macro patterns that just repeat themselves over and over and over again in the same cycles.

It just seems like our genes and our biology has preprogrammed our entire life and we are basically acting out their instructions from life until death.

You see these patterns in all facets of natural world. Where lifeforms are preprogrammed with what to do while having no consciousness.

Some people like to call that evolution, I look at it like a simulation.

The other day I encountered a glitch in the matrix, my handyman was telling me about a particular piece I need for a certain project. A few minutes later when I walked around my truck I found the same piece he was saying I needed laying in the rocks and dirt.

Iv had a lot of glitches in the system this being the most recent.

Elon is the kind of guy to challenge someone to a cage fight, and when that person accepts the challenge, complain about how he can't because he needs back surgery.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.
