Food Prices: No Relief In Sight
I've been intentionally avoiding a lot of bad news...do not click. I think most here have seen the news about poor crop yields and the diminished US cattle herd.
However I've seen 2 items in 2 days which point to continued inventory tightness and high prices for food.
The first was this video where the prepper says he was contacted by someone here in the US who is in the commercial refrigeration business. Has 20+ years experience in the field. Says that the amount of refrigerated foods in stock is very low- normally there would be about a month's worth in distribution centers, but now it is down to 9 days supply.
He attributes this to continuing manufacturing difficulties that began during the pandemic- old equipment in the factories, experienced staff retiring, a lot of difficulties repairing equipment and sometimes extended shut downs because they can not get a replacement part. Said when they shut down the workers all have to go find work someplace else and then when they are ready to restart workers don't want to come back and they have to train all new staff.
Then I just watched this today. Says that our favorite dementia patient is looking to put a big fat tariff on steel which he says will drive up the price of canned goods. I guess it is an attempt to hurt China and Russia, though it looks a lot like shooting yourself in the foot given we need our manufacturing to ramp up and we need raw materials for that. Why would we not want cheaper raw materials? Also makes me wonder more about the two scrap metal depot fires at port facilities.

The crazy plan to require all the semi trucks going in and out of the ports in CA to be powered by electricity??? A lot of what you see looks like suicide or murder. Anyone with even an average IQ can see that it can not be done- there are not enough trucks, the new trucks are prohibitively expensive, they don't have the facilities to charge the trucks.
Electric vehicles don't make any sense outside of driving around your little 15 minute city to do errands. Big storm or a fire bearing down on a highly populated area? Mass death.
But we still have governments mandating that no new ICE vehicles be sold in their jurisdiction.

And, yes. As stated in the OP I've been actively avoiding 95% of it at least. Because some of it is just posting fear for clicks and some of it is stuff that doesn't effect me directly or that I can't do anything about. But I do expect to continue buying food for as long as I still need to eat.

Inflation is permanent. What things cost now is what they'll cost forever as a floor. Inflation slowing down to 2% just means it's getting more expensive slower.
Things getting cheaper is deflation and the Fed will do everything they can to avoid that.

Man lands on moon
This was all predicted at the beginning of the year. Wit the way COVID $ is still flowing and the rich still popping bottles, the Fed cant keep up with the interest rates
Therefore, there can only be 2 outcomes: massive inflation or recession

If you aren't aware I've really enjoyed the content from David the Good. He has a much different take on gardening...working with nature instead of trying to impose order mainly.
I still learn stuff all the time. Very much enjoyed this one where he tours someone else's garden. I never thought about eating Rose of Sharon or marigolds, though I know nasturtiums and IIRC violets can be tasty. And the tip about planting mint around tomatoes to improve the flavor? I wanna try that now.
Maybe I can go visit Stacy sometime...

Biden ffs
Liberals obviously don’t eat meat. Else they’d be acknowledging this. This hurt at the grocery, and at the pump. They’re just blinded by hate for trump Srs
They’ll give up their own children if it means no trump
And as far as growing. Op knows I have a small, wry small, patio where I grow vegetables and fruits. It isn’t much to survive for months in but at least effort is there.
My pantry has everything though. To survive with up to 5 other people for about 9 months

You've posted about being completely isolated, divorced, struggling to provide for your nearly grown daughter, clearly mentally ill and incapable of gainful employment.
Seriously, I'm not sure what there is to be jealous of?

I haven't noticed lower prices on processed items which include eggs which are some foods that increased the most in price- ice cream, mayo, egg noodles.
I mean you don't have to prepare if your not into it. You might want to keep a stocked chest freezer and get your canned goods before this proposed tariff goes into effect.

Yes, I posted a photo which I did not say was me- other people in the thread said it was me. And I didn't correct it because it was kind of funny + who would ever imagine that it would become such a big thing???
IDK why anything else you have listed would be a reason to be hateful. But hey, if you think you could live my life, be me, and do a better job of it then more power to you. I've not even shared all the BS that has gone down in the past 6 years.

I asked how you afford to eat being unemployed with these runaway food prices. An honest question. You accused me of being jealous. I then asked clarification of what part of your current circumstances you assume I'm jealous of. Which I think is a fair question in no way motivated by hate.
I do think you mean well, I also think you are suffering from mental illness that has you stuck in this repetitive doom cycle, which is in turn accentuating your mental illness.
