One of my tenants is from Louisiana has been here in Kansas for about 3 weeks. Today I met him and he had a Kansas license plate on his truck. He drives a black Chevy Silverado truck. I asked him about his license plate and he said someone took his Louisiana plate and put the Kansas plate on there. The Kansas plate is from this county and expires 8/31/23. I searched the Kansas plate and it belongs to a black Nissan Frontier truck.

The guy with the truck doesn't want to hassle with making a police report here. He the superintendent of an emergency repair job that's going 24/7 at a refinery. He said he'd have to drive back to Louisiana to get a new plate and doesn't have the time. So he's just driving his Louisiana truck with a Kansas license plate.

I can understand why someone would steal a license plate, but why would they replace the stolen license plate with another one?

if he keeps the same plate then his story might be true. they like to constantly swap plates if they have a stolen car.


also since he moved states he can just register his car in the new state and get a new legal plate, you usually dont have to turn in your old one to the new state unless the old one wants it. he should do that and even if hes a temp he can use the current address and when he moves back he can just reregister it in the previous state.

I’m in Louisiana, tell him for $350 I’ll steal one and ship it to him.

I'd much rather report it and get a rental vehicle (possibly covered under his insurance?) than risk getting pulled over with a stolen plate. He can sort it out the next time he drives home.

Cops have plate scanners that automatically scan plates in their view, they don't need to proactively do anything but just drive around and wait to get a hit. He could get into some **** just leaving it there but I understand why he's willing to take the risk. Also if he doesn't report the stolen plate, the thief or whoever bought the plate from the thief can rack up charges on EZ pass, get blamed for accidents, etc.

I've known this guy for about 15 years. Him and his crew of 12+ come here 2-3 times a year for a 2-3 week job. He's had the same truck for at least 5 years.
