Owning a home is the most stressful f*ckin thing you can experience (1st world probs)

Owned for a year now and never been so stressed out in my entire life. There's ALWAYS literally either A.) something that NEEDS to be done, or B.) something that, at the very least, COULD be done. There's never a moment where everything feels "perfect". The people who lived in my house before I bought it were total slobs, and I'm almost envious. I almost wish I could have their level of not giving a f*ck.

Responsibility is a good thing but yeah it's initially overwhelming especially if you have a large plot of land.

Last two houses have been new builds for that reason.

If you dont buy a used house you can defer a lot of that headache a decade or so.

I remember the first house I bought I probably needed like $10,000 in tools and yard stuff and fix this and that, that I never would have dreamed of.

I also just moved out of a giant house in a country club community (post divorce) that I am prepping to sale and into a house downtown in my City that is 1/3rd the size, 3 minutes from my office, 3 minutes from great restaurants/bars, and it has been the best quality of life decision I've ever made.

True. New build can also have issues though if the builder was lazy. My house is 12 y/o, but the previous owners were disgusting slobs. The flippers did a good job, but it's still got some things that need fixing.

It's brutal.

The amount of expenses outside of the home (landscape/pool/snow/powercleaning) is ridiculous to begin with.

You house poor brah? That is stressful if that's the case.

Prior to buying my current home my wife and I were in a "luxury" apartment. Boy that turned out to be a sterssing, giftwrapped turd.

Living among people that can't get a mortgage is the worst. Srs.

I am about to spend $60,000 just getting the big house ready to sell lol. But I am gonna crush it when it sells. Have owned it since I bought it out of foreclosure at the bottom in 2010.

Did you not get an inspection done? I've heard about FOMO last year that caused a lot of people to panic and go without one. If so, I feel for you. I just replaced two ceiling fans (thanks kids) and no way in hell was I going to pay someone else to do it.

Living in a big house in the suburbs somewhere is literally nightmare fuel. Trading high quality of life for a ton of liabilities.

It's only stressful if you don't keep up on it. I clean my carpets/steam mop my place twice a month and find the time I spend cleaning to be relaxing. I let my yard go pretty bad and that was stressful until I just spent a few days weeding/trimming everything back. Bermuda grass is the ****ing devil.

The scariest thing to me about home ownership tbh is the permanence. Never know if you'll make any enemies and they know where you live long term.

Bought and sold a house in 21, my roof was 1 year old, architectural 40 year shingles, new 80 gallon hot water heater.

I did take a hit with one of the central a/c units crapping out but wasn’t that bad with warranty.

If you're really concerned, you can pay a service to keep your name/address off the internet that's pretty effective. I used it years ago when I had a green light on me from when I worked in corrections.

Ouch.

This house needs work. It's a drag. Pretty much decided I have to sell because it's the right thing to do- high taxes and needs some real investment made being over 30 years old.

I want less maintenance. Getting out of a big city seems smart, but there are a lot of things I like to have access to. Decisions...

Find a roofer who will work with insurance for wind hail or rain damage assuming you have good insurance.

Also roofing sales is a huge racket. 40% markup isn’t uncommon.
