What are miscers plan for retirement?

I know the majority of you guys probably will be working until your 70's, and that's okay it's just the way this system is right now

Others have some ideas with real estate, or pension, or have a certain amount in their TSP/401k

I want to hear some of y'alls plans.. or maybe you don't have one yet which is fine too

I started my career later so didn't get to max out my TSP early enough like I wanted, so probably will end up staying in until 52-53. Who knows maybe I'd stay until 56 if the pay increase is dramatic. Would live off my pension+FERS supplement+a % of my TSP and maybe work part time somewhere if I get bored.

I'll have my house paid off in 11 years when I'm around 42. If I don't have any kids by that point, I can retire and make around 3500+ renting the upstairs (converted 2nd level of house into its own separate unit with exterior entrance) that I can use to **** off and travel or do whatever. I'm not counting on my pension because
1) it's dog****, 2.7%@57
2) a lot can change in 10 years.

If I really want to bust my ass I can buy a second property further inland and live there when I retire but the idea of having to maintain two properties with sizable yards just seems like a lot of stress I'd rather not deal with.

If I have kids I'll probably work into my 50s or at least till I put away enough to pay for their college.

Hoping to be dead at 55 rather than be old and alone

Retiring to the ground
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Current goal, as an unmarried kidless male in his late 20's is...

1) Own a house either before 30 or during early 30's.

2) Pay off the house before I'm 40. Now my CoL is just property taxes, HOA, food, insurance, bills. More investments/savings now.

3) Work until I feel confident that I have more than enough money to fund myself till age 59 1/2. Retire possibly in late 40's or early 50's.

4) 59 1/2 and beyond, start milking the 401k. Should have over $2m in there I think, after taxes, by this time.

5) 62 and beyond, receive social security. Should be over $7k/mo in future dollars ($2.5k/mo in current 2023 dollars) if I quit working by age 45 as example. You can enter your info into a ssa.gov calculator and get an estimate if you want.

If wife/kids are involved. Well, current GF plans to work and "never retire until she has to." I could see her mindset, and having kids possibly, making me want to work for longer, but I can't imagine wanting to work after age 55 personally, even if she wants to do so in her 70's. Current GF has plans to work in her career field, get a PhD, become a professor, and eventually own her own business. If those things happen, then dope.

I'm part of a pension plan that is supposed to pay me 80% of my top five years' salary. If I stay with my current organization, that's 80% of $94,000 in today's money.

Plus my wife and I both have 401k's that our organizations match.

As long as I have a job or career that I like, then I don't ever want to retire, I'd get bored. I do contribute to a Roth 401k and I also want to invest in real estate. So at some point I won't need to work anymore.

I could retire right now without any change in my financial situation.

After dropping from 80+ hours to 40, I already consider myself semi-retired. I don't have any plans to ever retire completely, but if I wake up one day and decide I don't want to work any more, I will just stop.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

Don't think I'll retire, or retire fully. I enjoy working. I also find it difficult to find any purpose if I'm not busy

Yea I could just rot and smash hookers all day but that'd get boring quick

You have to get used to the days being different

Took me Bout a year

I also have an unsettled.mind

But, once you accept how It is not having much to do daily

It becomes easier

We're animals with intelligence, that's it

It's a blessing and a curse

Think Bout what every other animal does daily

Fkn nothing

Not sure I'll ever fully "retire" - I enjoy what I do.

For me it's more about the "where". I have said it before but having a child changes things, and she's napping now with wifey and I'm scoping out some potential properties for a 'final build'. I own a number of properties, and even mine in NYC don't "feel right" with a baby sometimes. I mean, it'll matter more when she's older and if we have another, but something like a spacious home in nature with a lapping pool (indoor/outdoor) and not too far from city life is ideal.

Day by day though. I don't really "dream about the future" - I enjoy the present too much for that.

Idk I already do whatever I want.

I guess sometimes I have to do a few hours of paperwork a week I would rather not but I don’t want to pay anyone to do it or I’ll lose money on the business from too high labor.

So eventually I guess I’ll want to sell any business I own and just passively invest

So idk why retire? Just make sure you are capable of cutting back how much work you do whenever you want and work as much as you feel like. No sense trying to stop doing things, might as well just die at that point.

Assuming a 10.8% return across Roth IRA, 401k and brokerage, I should have enough to tap out around low 50's. Plan is to have two homes, one in coastal Florida and one out west or coastal SE Alaska. Use those two homes as launching pads for hunting/fishing expeditions across most states for most of the year. Work fun part time jobs in between to fill time and stay socially active. That's what I day dream about anyway.

INB4 divorced day I turn 59.5 and end up on the streets.

The mentality of always working you're whole life is strange to me.. the thought of working forever is depressing. I took 3 months paid paternity leave for my kid and it only further reinforced that I work to live, not live to work.

Those of yall who wanna always work, have you always been that way?
