Can someone explain the "NEET" lifestyle to me please?

I've recently come across this term. From the little amount of information I've gathered thus far, this seems to be a designation for those who are not currently employed nor studying. My question is, how does that work? How does one support themselves? Government assistance? What would you do all day long?

Are there people who post here who would describe themselves as "NEET?" If so, what do your weeks look like? What kinds of things are you pursuing? What does your overarching lifestyle look like? Your day to day existence? How do you pay your rent/groceries? Etc

Thanks!

Hard to do in the US unless you're parents support you, easier in europe due to social system.

Fcked lifestyle though, just work part time. NEETing too long will fck you up mentally

I understand parents, but what would justify government assistance? From my (limited, mind you) understanding, don't you have to prove some kind of disability, mental or physical? Without familial assistance, would a so called "NEET" individual have some kind of diagnosis attached to them that allows them to acquire renumeration in absence of work?

as long as youre not working and over the legal age you can collect welfare. than you can try to game the system and get on disabiltiy by claimnig depression/anxiety (easy).

rent out a furnished room with wifi for 500/mth. rest on food, beers and smokes.

wake up, smoke som, misc, fap and TV all day. start drinking by 10pm. all day chill

I am unemployed since 2012...and have given up altogether on doing anything in life...it's not like I am depressed or frustrated...but I do feel bored and annoyed sometimes....

Here's what I do everyday just to have the time ticking away....

Smoke few cigarettes, drink few cups of tea, use laptop, use smartphone, watch television....drink beer sometimes only....

How does one willingly keep that lifestyle up? It sounds like a living nightmare to me. Literally the antithesis of fulfillment. I can see maybe recovering from some issue you were having and taking this time to learn and grow, but milking the system as you word it seems really counterproductive.

Why not use this as an opportunity to set some nice concrete goals for yourself? You have one shot at life, boyo. Squeeze the schit out of it. Wring it like a wet sponge. But hey, to each their own I guess. I won't judge you.

well not everyone is you.

and its better then being forced to wake up at 5am to get ready for work where youre treated like another easily repalced pleb while they give you the lowest wage possible. why do you think 1/3-2/3 the working population is on anti depression and anxiety pills? work keeps people in line with the fear of losing their job over small things and your whole life crumbing since most people live paycheck to paycheck. constant stress. what kinda life is that?

Getting some type of financial welfare is more difficult than you think. Don't believe me? Try it. In AZ, to get either food or financial assistance, you can't make more than $300/mo.

The financial supplement you will get isn't going to cover rent anywhere, plus utilities. Most get by with having roommates, live with family, etc. You are not going to do it living by yourself.

It's easier if you have dependents (single parents). You get a supplement for yourself plus each child.

I make $1k/mo, and so I don't qualify for food or financial assistance. I do get free healthcare (AHCCCS/Medicaid) because I make less that $15k/yr.

Getting on disability is a gamble. It'll screw up your SS income if it's still around by the time you turn 65 or 66. Collect less now and for the rest of your life, or wait until normal age to collect at get more. The amount you get is based of your total work history, and how soon you draw from it.
I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.

Why is this the only option for you? Life isn't black and white. It's not just NEET vs schit menial soul-crushing job.

I don't know your situation and I can't pretend to understand what you've been through, and these might sound like empty surface-level words, but I would still encourage you to not give up. There are many paths you can take in life but you need to keep actively going down these many paths to find one that works, rather than opting to no longer try any at all.

I was a NEET for like 8-10 months during 2020. left one job right before the covid hammer fell, moved twice during that time ect.

It wasnt bad at all. honestly if it wasnt for pussy i wouldnt even care about working and having my own place. i could just stay with family and NEET max all day. especially if you got disability or handouts from the gov. I completely get why unskilled people do it, you need to make low six figures for it to even be worth it.

If youre unskilled its not even worth it, if you make 30-40k you still have to live with family or other people. If you make 60k you can probably find some small ass apartment that is like section 8 housing that laquisha gets for free just for pumping out babies. What is even the point. If you made it into your 30s without any skills its over

We are conditioned to believe that "working for money = fulfillment" because of consumerism. That's a very narrow view of it really. Some people die at their desk filling unfulfilled with a huge bank account. Others, it may be their dream to die at their desk with a huge bank account.

He who dies with the most toys win, amirite?

Monks and priests who live in poverty have very fulfilling lives serving others.

You have to dig deep and find what makes life worth living. Some see that with money, others spiritually, others to serve their community, etc. But to say, you no workie, it must be an unfulfilling life is just projecting.

I was referring primarily to having goals in life in general, not necessarily just working towards professional goals per se. I was addressing the "NEET" folks who mentioned waking up and living each day not really working towards any well thought out goals. I agree with you 100% that your fulfillment in life does not come exclusively from career attainment.

wrong, if youre not high born or without extreme talent then yes, life is that black and white. you are just another commoner - either being neet or working a soul crushing pleb job.

Tired of doing things?

Love being a lazy bum?

Stressed out by buying expensive things or going on expensive vacations?

Want to pretend sitting on your parent's couch is a similar experience to scuba diving in cozumel?

Try NEET!

It's related to incels and social media. Everybody thinks they deserve a top 10% outcome and if they can't get that, they won't play the game.

They won't accept a 5/10 woman, even though they are only 5/10 themselves, they want a 8/10.

They are lazy and have no marketable skills, but refuse to be a "wagie", like most other people, because they are special and deserve more.

This is why you see lots of people who are both NEETs and incels, as the psychology behind them is very similar.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

I'm none of those things.

Not high born

Not NEET

Have a job I enjoy working for a company I don't own.

I will explain it to you succinctly. I expect reps as well.

THE ONLY THING YOU OWN IN YOUR LIFE (IF YOU ARE LUCKY!) IS YOUR TIME.

The problem with many jobs is that they swallow you whole. Basically taking up your entire day with a few hours of downtime in between. Now if you are highly paid or you work in a job of passion (taking care of animals) then good on you. But for most people the juice isn't worth the squeeze. For example, housewives who work but whose income only covers the cost of childcare with no true upward-mobility (not a law partner track etc.).

Not saying you should be NEET, but recognize that billions of have lived and died before you and are forgotten (as you likely will). How you choose to your time (re happiness) is most important. obvs take care of your kids family etc. as a factor too.

Factually incorrect, awful, black and white belief. I don't blame you for feeling perpetually stuck in life if you harbor such beliefs. "High born." Boyo, life isn't game of thrones.
