Looking it up, Bharat is a Hindi word (the bha- prefix had me thinking). Well guess what, the southern half of the country doesn't speak Hindi, and despises being forced to. The large and rich southernmost state especially, which always had the biggest ethnic split from the northerners.

The Indian government tried to standardize Hindi as the language in schools in the 1960s, and southern brahs rioted, correctly seeing it as something of a northern cultural genocide. They basically muddle forward with British English as their official language in public schools, because picking a "govt's favorite language" is too contentious.

I am Bharatan and let me tell you, being Bharatan is actually a great thing. we have beautiful people and we have ugly people. just like any race. I for 1 am a great person, have great friends, and i take care of every one that is in my life and i am glad to do it, and for that i have people that love me around me. also, Bharat parents are one of the best parents you can have. sometimes they can be really strict, but they will take care of you no matter what, and they will buy you what ever it is that you need. as long as your not a selfish ****head. Apart from India, they also called their country Bharat or Hindustan since it's there....but totally renaming the country on a global level would be very difficult since India has been around since 1947 and it would take ages for people all over the globe to get used to the new name...and with so much history and culture I just don't see how they would agree to anything like that..
