Does anyone else feel like they aren't going to live very long?

I just don't see myself living to an old age. I'm 44 now and I basically feel the best years are already behind me and I'm just cruising. Then again, I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, and I didn't get any of the clot shots. Maybe it's because I've gained weight due to depression from losing so many people that I cared about to death and the stress of my job and basically feeling alone in the world?

Damn that’s rough brah. I feel like I might be going down that path too if I let all this darkness keep consuming me. Now I see why you were beefing with a kid on the Misc.

What's your financial situation like OP? If you're kidless, never married, and had a decent career, you should be getting excited about your net worth and proximity for retirement at your age. Surely you know what you'd wanna do if you get all that free time.

And at 44 your life isn't yet behind you IMO. You can still possibly start a family, srs. Many men have kids in their 40's, and even 50's. Al Pacino got a girl pregnant, including verification of a paternity test, at age 83. Crazy chit.

I'm not saying starting a family has to happen to achieve fulfillment OP, but just saying it's an option for you still. And it goes to show what you're capable of in general. You've got a lot of possibilities and excitement ahead.

Actualy today I start a new job that is WFH and it was a big accomplishment to get this job that is hard to get. So instead of taking off at 6-7am an getting home 8-9pm I'll jus be working 40hrs a week from home 8hrs a day 8-5. Maybe that will help.

As for OP. Losing weight, eating healthy will prob get your spirits up. Travel to Colombia and smash HBBs? Or just travel. A new environment usually helps a lot.

Trying to figure some things out so I can make those goals happen.

I was doing pretty good finanically until inflation wrecked me. This new job, being WFH, I won't have the expenses of working 58mi from home. No kids, never married, and I do have a good career. I own my house and have quite a bit in assets but that really doesn't matter all that much really.

A lot of men deal with this. Its part of a midlife crisis. I'm the same age as you, and never thought about death near as much as I did when I was younger

I was in a serious car accident a few years ago. Straight in to a tree. Totaled my truck and somehow survived

About 6 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. Was treated and so far I've been clear. (A topic for another thread)

Death for me has become very real. Two times I wasn't sure if I'd live. I fear I won't live long either.

Then I realized that the more we think about death, the less we think about life, then we've wasted our life. Christ mentions this in the Bible. Faith in Christ and heaven eases the mind about death. When you know death isn't the end, death loses its sting.

The Vikings and Romans even welcomed death. Its what made the Romans stoic, especially in battle. It's what makes religious groups resistant to tyrannical regimes. Nothing the regime can do to us will force us to do something we don't want to, because the fear of not being with Christ in heaven is worse than death itself.

Hope this helps. Along with reading the Bible, I enjoyed books like Undaunted Courage and Gates of Fire. Reading about bad ass men who don't/didn't fear death is helpful.

Living a fulfilling life leads to contentment too. Getting to the end of life and knowing you've done great things allows us to accept death easier.

Yes but not because of lifestyle choices or age.

The traffic is often so bad near me that I feel like I’m playing Russian roulette every time I drive..the constant concentration is exhausting and I’ve already had some close calls. One of these days I have a strong feeling I’m not gonna react quickly enough and something really bad is going to happen..I’ve been telling people I think I will die in a car accident for years.

The other thing is I have a heart murmur, the doc says it doesn’t sound bad but I should have an EKG done but I don’t have health insurance so I said I can’t afford it and walked out. There are heart issues on both sides of my family so it’s possible something happens with that.

I definitely don’t see myself living to old age though.

I feel it, too. Not because I think I'll die, but because Christ will probably return before I hit the age of 80. Been studying history fairly closely. Degeneracy is becoming rampant worldwide and not just in certain kingdoms like it used to be. Except this time the world won't have a great flood, but there will be fire. Not everyone will die when the restoration of all things comes. Some will not even see death and will instantly go into the afterlife as it is written.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I was highly aware of my inevitable death since I was a toddler ded srs. It used to make my mom cry when I’d talk about it lolll always felt like I was going to die early

With a deep acceptance of that it feels like every moment now is a gift that I am so lucky i get to experience.

Go really deep into it and u may just find a new appreciation for life

Hell no.

I think I will live a very long time and its thanks to a proper diet and lots of beer.

I genuinely feel that beer is good for you. You have to combine it with a good diet and workout program though, otherwise its just sitting around getting drunk and fat for no reason.

I've been brewing beer for over a decade. It's a fantastic display of chemistry blending into art.

Respecting a SRS thread:

1. Why do you believe that your best years are behind you? What was so good about your life before, that you can't have now? Be specific;
2. If you have gained a lot of weight due to Depression (is this clinically diagnosed, or self-diagnosed?) what have your care providers suggested?
3. Losing loved ones can take a toll on someone, and that is okay. But do you believe that the folks you lost would want to watch you from the beyond and see you suffer? Consider, rather, that a piece of them lives on within you. And you should honor that, for their sake too.

Growing up my mother always told me she would die by the age of 42. She lived to be 63.

Stop thinking about it and live life. When it's your time it's your time but as the good book says you can shorten your days. Meaning if you want to get behind the wheel of a car and drive like an idiot, or take dangerous drugs you can cut it back significantly.

If you actually feel that way OP you might want to see a shrink. That's not normal and definitely not healthy
