Lived within 15-35 minutes of Charlotte my whole life...now all the small towns are much more populated and nicer looking than they've ever been. Small town living yet within driving distance of what larger towns have to offer is GOAT. Granted many of small town originals don't like new people getting in on what we've always enjoyed.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. I'm moving back to a small town relatively soon as well.

Yeah a lot of people are too broke to afford living in actual cities

So they move out to bumphukk nowhere and accept their chitty life

If you're 15-40 minutes from everything the city has to offer yet live in a nicer house, safer area, less minorities, less lgbtqrx, more sense of community, better schools.....

how exactly does your life change for the worse?

There are plusses and minuses to small town life. Maybe at some point it will interest me, but at this point it would be suicide.

However, my I have a good friend who got married and bought a home in the town we grew up in, and he's been there for like 8 years now and has a couple kids. Goddamn, they seem bored now. Life is good, he has his family around they travel a decent amount. But there's just nothing exciting that happens for them anymore. It's all just talking about family and what they are doing. Going out to eat as a source of entertainment. They earn good money, but you can tell they're probably maxed out at something like $200k in the good years(and like $100k between them in the bad years). Still trying to pretend like they have more than they do.

Like I said, there will likely be a point in my life where this appeals to me. But I can't imagine being in my 30s and being that bored.

The demographic seems favorable.

My plan b retirement plan is to sell all my chit and move to a cheap af but still nice and relatively undiscovered small town, and just live off the interest

It's kind of a shame seeing quaint, small town suburbs become homogenized. BRB another Chipotle and luxury apartment buildings in what was farmland or forest a decade ago. The uniqueness disappears. The upside is if you move to the further suburbs you can still get a brand new, luxury home that's NICE for the same price as a 50 yr old home in the city. I'm not there yet, but can see it maybe happening in another decade so long as the schools aren't schit.
