Daily reminder: home values are not increasing

If the house is the same but the nominal price in dollars has gone up

That just means you need to work more hours to earn the number of dollars required to buy it

So the value of your labour went down

It’s the same house. It didn’t go up in “value”. No, value =|= changes in nominal price.

Inb4: but I got a 4% raise this year!

So what. You still went backwards in real terms.

Inb4: But I remodelled my house! That’s where the increased value comes from!

Nope. You partly offset the depreciation on the structure. It’s a decaying building with finite economic life.
