It's sad what's happening to so many malls

Malls even in small/medium sized towns used to be cool places with places to eat, watch movies, trendy stores, etc.

Now many of them are circling the drain and look like something out an apocalypse movie with how they start neglecting maintenance/asphalting parking lot/empty stores/a few lowly depressed looking people roaming around...closing around 6pm.

In my fairly large metro you used to have probably 10 malls that were at least decent...now maybe 1 or 2.

That’s a wonderful thing, there shouldn’t be any malls, and it’s good for Amazon stock as well, since I own a lot of that.

In my city the next new mall eats the previous one. I’ve seen three so far, top dog is currently mall of Louisiana and it’s going strong, Sears did close a couple years ago but a seasonal store took its place Halloween, Christmas, Mardi Gras, etc.

Malls are experiencing their version of white flight since way too many degenerate trashy people started going there in hoardes starting in the early 2000's.

Cortana mall closed here some years ago and now it’s a massive Amazon joint, lol.

seems like malls are getting funneled down to where you might have 5 that are decent then 3...and then like 1 mall where everyone wanting to go to a mall will go. these last malls standing can then better afford keeping things looking good, security, etc.

Like 5 years ago I passed through one of my old "home towns" (the area I've lived the longest - and lived there two different times), and stopped at the mall I used to go to a lot. Went there a bunch from the early to mid 90s and then from the early to late 2000's. When I went there five years ago...it was like a ghost town.

More things have shut down since I was last there (and I also was there pre covid so...). Kind of depressing.

Yeah. Online shopping really did put it on life support and this was pre-Covid. Covid pulled the plug pretty much.

For those that remember like 1995 on a Friday night...the mall was packed. And it was people of all income levels, races, ages. Restaurants, game rooms, movies, shopping, a place to just walk...mall felt cool.

A big, often overlooked part of what has been wrecking shopping malls as a plausible business concept over the past 10 - 15 years is that the fat cat ownership groups of malls would rather let stores sit empty and rot rather than lower their insane rental fees. It's ridiculous seeing how many shopping malls have allowed half or more of their main anchor stores go out of business, and leave huge stores empty for years on end.

Had to go this morning for eyeglass repair as soon as they opened at 12 and it was light but when i went to my car the parking lot was crowded.

This place has nice restaurants so who knows what is really going on.

Cheescake, Maggianos, PF Changs....

One mall with those places here. Most areas will probably get to where you have one or two kinda high end nice malls while all the others circle the drain until they close.

Lol fkn lol @ stockcels.

Stockcels don't care about the wellbeing of their environment, as long as their "stocks" is doing well. Nothing is more useless than stocks.

The mall closest to me is pretty busy still. The one near where I grew up is pretty dead.

OP I’m sure you would be able to formulate a solution if you put your mind to it. In fact I bet you already know how to fix it.

Why are you hiring the solution? Why are you keeping the answer to yourself?

In the future you’re already known as the man who fixed the mall crisis situation.

LOL -- kinda like absentee landlords that let homes turn to chit/lower property values of others because they only care about the check in the mail.
