Misc non-lifters: what is your excuse for not lifting?

Just curious. Question applies to people who flat out don't lift and never have or who used to and don't anymore.

Injury?
Lack of knowledge?
Lack of motivation and willpower?
Lack of concrete time or belief that you don't have the time?
Low test?
Too much soy in diet?
Lack of accessibility to exercise equipment?
Don't care about your physical and mental well-being?
Low pain tolerance?
Ph@ggot?

Is there anything us lifters here can do to put you on the right path?

For your time..........

*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

I came here because I lifted. I kept workout and supp journals here in the past. I even kept a journal in the steroid section before bb did away with it too.

Gave up weights long ago. But non lifting isn’t an issue here at not in a decade at least do I stayed after giving it up.

What does your overall exercise/fitness routine look like in absence of weight lifting?

HIIT style cardio on treadmill, punching bag or the recumbent bike. No supps anymore except a multi vitamin/mineral. Protein powders I still use but not for hypertrophic lean mass gains. Muscle any would be an added bonus but no 5x5, doggcrapp, max ot, west side? None of that no more. Not since I was diagnosed with UC.

Hiking is a great way to get some cardio in while getting some fresh air, if you're able to access a location to do so.

I conquered a few trials when I had a hiking buddy to conquer them with. But I ain’t got my hiking buddy no more

It is a cardio workout. Fresh air. Will look at it when. We start having cool fronts here.

Currently waiting on hip replacement. Will be done in November.
Hitting the gym in Jan-Feb. Can't wait.

No idea why people would come here if they did not train...... That is just me.

And screw all the excuses. In the past 13 years I have missed less than 5 workouts (unplanned). I have trained through spinal fractures (with approval from Dr), I have trained through more injuries (outside the gym) than I care to count.

I am now 50 with 25+ years training. Yet the only answer many 'miscers' have to seeing my physique is 'jooouicy'. If I do stop training, I would probably no longer visit this place.

At the rate this is going downhill, I am guessing bb.com will be long gone before I give up training.

Yep....partially torn labrum. In 07 my shoulder was so bad I could not lift my infant son out of car seat (my wife would have to do it). Got MRI, and they scheduled surgery. I went to see a good friend who was a chiro before the surgery and he told me to let him try some things.

Lots of scar tissue and impingement going on. Super painful work on shoulder to loosen up. Gave me all kinds of exercises to try. Long story short, never had surgery.

Went from not being able go grab a gallon of milk out of fridge, to benching 4+ plates (with very strict form).

Injury is still there. Takes lots of rehab and determination to work around things. There are still things I cant do. (and I no longer train very heavy at 50). Almost all my benching is reverse grip these days. And heaviest I will go is 315. Most of my work is rep work with 225 and 275 from time to time.

Seems like we have a similar belief about lifting and the value it has in our lives. I also do my very best to never miss training sessions. Even if I have no time, I have no excuse. I have a gym literally in my garage. I walk over, put on a record, do some stretching, warmups, a few working sets. I can get a nice intense lifting session in in 30 minutes at these times and it's better than nothing.

The only time in recent history where I didn't lift was when I tore my labrum and had surgery on it. But to be honest even when I was off cycle and not lifting I didn't lose all of my muscle and maintained a pretty good physique.

I just watched my diet and would take the dog walk 3-4 miles per day in the evening. Once I could tolerate a little bit of strain I started hitting the gym and training legs and abs 2x per week.

I was so ready to lift again. It really didn't take long for my upper body to fill back out. TBH I think the 10ish months off did me some good. I filled out more and had a juicer physique afterwards.

I don't get brahs who don't lift either. Lifting has improved the quality of my life in just about every way. Sloots got easier, social life got better, easy interviews and people are always just more positive toward you. Its one of the best things you can do to lead a happier life.

It also doesn't even take super long to get to the point where other people perceive you as swole or compliment you. Anyone who says lifting wont make you look like you lift is doing something extremely wrong.

Was the labrum or the fracture a result of lifting? I've gotten into lifting more recently but I don't want to end up like some of the 50 y/o brahs at my gym wincing in constant pain with every heavy push. Any golden advice you have for general longevity?

Not sure where labrum came from. Broke collar bone on that shoulder at 18. Several other injuries. In my early 30's when I was not training, I got pinned in a self-closing gate between the sliding gate and my truck. Really hurt it then as well.

Long story short, I have no idea. I am 50 and trained heavy until 5 years ago when I was in car accident and fractured my spine, and 3 disk injuries. At the time I was pretty much at my lifetime peak of strength at 45.

Back has never healed and attempts over the years to return to squatting have not worked out well. So I just 'stay in shape' these days. Losing mass is inevitable as I have noticed in past few years.

With that said, for most 50 year olds I am probably much more active and still feel 20 years younger. But in other ways I am a collection of injuries, broken neck with degeneration of disks, fracture spine, shoulder injuries ALL outside the gym. The gym keeps me young. No need to for me to push hard except for when I want to test myself a bit from time to time.

Also no 'progress' for me or PR's any longer. I have adopted a fasting lifestyle last 5 years and just live to be in shape and healthy.

In B4 joooucy! I am low 200lbs. 5'9. Legs and back have shrunken the most since not being able to train heavy.

You look phenomenal, especially at your age. It's funny because I find that the more I age, the better shape I find myself in. That's because I've never stopped pushing myself and learning. I find it extremely fulfilling and affirming. I was always a chubby kid, adolescent, and young adult until I got it together and tried to create meaningful change in that domain. It took me a long time but this past summer, I officially sat 50 pounds lighter than what I was sitting at in my early 20s. 15 years of hard work has paid off. I also decided to retire the idea of getting much larger and just enjoy being more light and limber at my age. I just feel better overall. It's also nice to not be ashamed of your body and just walking around my property shirtless tan-maxxing in the summer

Pic of me at my lightest this past summer:

*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*
