New York is great to visit. Probably live a year or so, thats it.

Same for any big city in the US. Miami is a giant whorehouse.

It's a rat and roach infested chithole.
Millions of people with their heads up their asses who basically live on a huge garbage heap.

Wouldn't shed a tear if it sank into the sea.

Anytime I had to go there it's a chit experience. The traffic sucks, the people suck, and astronauts are as bad as they come. I'm not about citycel life but when options like Miami exist I don't get how anyone can romanticize a place like NYC or LA for that matter.

I live in both and if it wasn’t for work, I’d never come back to this disgusting socialist degenerate city.

Miami moggs hard but the plastic surgery for bitches is getting a little wild.

At least the $$$ is good in NYC but the everything else is utter piss. There is no peace to be found there...a constant onslaught of nonsense and degen chit. Cortisol levels through the roof.

NYC is a complete trash dump, srs, have been going there for work here and there over the years and some times I had to be there fairly regularly and it's always been a total chit heap. Every time I go through the tunnel and get to the NJ side it's like paradise.

One time they had smoke stacks on the street venting raw sewage, that was a nice welcome to the city. I eventually stopped driving and starting taking the bus.

That said... NYC is 10x worse

I moved to nyc in 2015 and lamented it for most of that time. Would just rather be around more nature. It’s been good to me though and I finally am starting to enjoy life here.

It is what you make it.

They're holding onto an idea. It's Stockholm syndrome at this point. The chicks think it's like sex and the city and the guys think they're going to be uber successful moggers in the process. But the soulless city and excessive degeneracy always wins in the end. It has a 100% win rate.

I don't really see the appeal of NYC if you're not a fan of nightlife or a careercel tbh. The main reason people rave so much about NYC is the food/dining and the fact that things are still open at 3-4 AM. That sounds great when you're <27 years old, but I find it cringe people still find that appealing in their late-20s/early-30s. The people that rave about NYC in general seem to be folks that never grow up and want to live college life forever or douchey finance bros that have no lives besides the number of 0s in their bank account.

Not the kind of people I'd want to associate with personally.

NY is basically the biggest chithole city around. The elite parts can be nice, but that's true for any big city.

I'm not into nightlife at all and work remotely in a stress free job so neither of those things were factors for me.
Everyone's different, but for me, I can find 90% of the stuff you suggested, outside of going to Boston/Philly/DC, in Chicago for a much lower sticker price. If I'm not into nightlife anyway, I'd rather live in Philly/DC and use the savings from rent/taxes to make trips to NYC once in a while to get my fill in personally. I'm a pretty pragmatic person overall though, so maybe I'm just unimaginative. I've been to NYC numerous times and most people spend their time going to restaurants and getting drunk, which they can do in virtually any city nowadays. Even bumblephuck towns in flyover country have "craft brews" and "artisan coffee"

Dallas sucks ass though, so I can see how NYC is a yuge upgrade after living there lol. Aside from the politics, I'm not at all a fan of those sunbelt cities

I might try Boston eventually as I don't find NYC to be a reasonable place to live for the rest of my life.. but we'll see. I would've been happy staying in Chicago forever but the leftwing politics and crime ruined it for me. Once those dingers started migrating to the north side, I don't think I can ever go back.
Is Chicago that bad these days? I was living there pre-pandemic and moved afterward because my office was shuttered, my friends moved out during the pandemic, and I didn't want to sit alone in my apartment all day. I've been thinking about going back, but people have told me that The El is sketchy these days. I used to live on the Red/Green and would usually Uber back home if it was after 11 since the green intersects with the west side of town. People tell me nowadays it can be sketchy anytime after around 7-7:30 once the Loop clears out on weekdays.

And yeah, tbh, I don't really find any American city that appealing anymore and I think I'd be happier abroad. In America, you either:

1. Have to live in the Northeast/Chicago and deal with psychotic libs/chitty weather if you want a "real" city feeling

2. Live in the bible belt and drive through endless strip malls/a maze of highways and deal with a bunch of uneducated people whose only entertainment in life is Dave & Busters/the NFL on weekends if you want warm weather

3. Live in Commiefornia/Seattle where you can't be carless and have to deal with RADICAL leftists that hate anyone who has any modicum of success/work ethic

I know Europe fuarked up too, but I'd rather take my assets and move to a less chaotic place like Lisbon or certain parts of Spain and have a simpler life with a real city in good weather. I won't get rich there, but who cares beyond a certain point
