The world's job market is about to get f'd in the next 2-3 years.

If you haven't seen all the new things chatGPT can do, including reading excel sheets, fixing them, producing them... interpreting loads of data and creating reports for you... proofreading and all this...

Business offices everywhere will begin firing loads of people, and replace them with people who know how to use AI.

For example..

they will fire 6 office workers and replace them with 2 people who know how to use AI features effectively. Each one will be able to EASILY take on the workload with the use of AI.

Things are about to get real bad. I'm in school for software engineering, so I am going to get into AI myself.... but the things coming down the pipeline are going to F everything up for a lot of people. It's going to get really bad.

Funny thing too, last night I was driving home, talking to someone about all of this, and as we stopped to get food, the drive-thru was AI. They fired the drive thru person. And the AI handled my order quickly, and efficiently, no issues with the TTS. And you could speak to it in ANY LANGUAGE!

You seriously underestimate how long it takes some companies to adapt to technology.

The powers that be are altruistic and benevolent and will make robots and AI support us all so we can all have a comfortable middle class lifestyle with housing and food and medical care without having to work. They will make sure nobody will starve or be homeless or be sick. No more Incels as they will all have virgin brides shipped from overseas. Flying cars piloted by computers. Not this time.

The technology is incredible, and it's going to spread like wildfire, because of the savings on labor, and increased efficiency.

I want to believe.

Smaller companies can perhaps move that quickly. Large bracket everything takes years to get new Tech implemented. If my job could even work out their data infrastructure I'd be impressed, let alone deploying an AI tool effectively across the org.

Fast food has already started working on implementation, like you said. Error free ordering and prep with zero stress about staff, which for most businesses is the biggest part of their overhead.

All they will need is a service tech on site for breakdowns.

And call centers are starting to find ways to have AI responders instead of real people, which again will improve things immensely for companies because they don't have to worry about staff losing it on customers or making mistakes.

Have you seen the new features that have already been developed within the past couple of months, for example, with ChatGPT ?

It can interpret any picture you give it, including scanned documents, graphs, anything, even circuit board analysis normally reserved for engineers. You can then ask it to create an analysis table for you in an Excel spreadsheet, holding all of the data from the document, and produce several different reports for you. In any format you like. It can even read existing data reports and fix them for you, and provide new summarized reports for you, or update existing ones with new data.

And it can do all of this in under 5 minutes.

People are about to lose their jobs very soon. It's going to get ugly. There is no stopping this, the cost in labor will be too big to pass up.

That's not the point. Yes, you still need someone who knows the material to "oversee" the process and check for errors.... however, you will need a lot less people to get the busy work done.

FOR EXAMPLE.

Say, there are 1,000 accountants in your city (just example, ignore realism of number). 800 of them will lose their jobs, and you can downsize to 200 accountants who know how to use AI effectively, and went and got certified in AI prompts or something.

A medium sized business with about 50 employees, needs about 4-6 accountants. Guess what. All fired, keep 1 or 2 accountants who knows how to use AI. Done.

Large businesses with 100+ employees? Or these big companies with thousands of employees? They have hundreds of accountants. Guess what happens to most of them.

Thats sweet, now have it do all that within the confines of user data in an actual regulatory environment. The issue isn't the Tech. Its the reg environment and the size of data that folks want to apply this AI to. If a large bracket anything deploys this Tech and the next day it ****s up and dumps a **** ton of customer data, its all over broski.

For all Chat GPT's hype, it's seriously overrated.

It can do some impressive stuff, but also some really stupid stuff which just makes it not practical for full on job replacement yet.

For example, i can't count the times it's gotten basic calculus wrong when i've used it. It seems to have particular difficulty with simple polynomials raised to a negative power.

Not much is going to change in the short term, frankly. In 10-20 years, maybe.

If you want an example, try giving it some basic calculus; ask it to differentiate something with a negative power. It nearly always gets it wrong.
My engineering Professor explained it like this,

the free version of chatGPT is a smart high school student.

the paid version of chatGPT is 100 geniuses put together.

Are you using the free version of ChatGPT? That one is dumbed down. 3.5 is not as good, and this is intentional. They dumbed down the free version to monetize the paid version.

I use the paid version. It still sucks at some quite simple calculus.

Sorry but no, it's not like 100 geniuses put together, just like most machine learning it's good at some things, terrible at others. Machines are still a fair margin from replicating true human intelligence, and this is their limitation

All the technology you see now, i had access to in 2012 when studying for my masters (my dissertation even used genetic algorithm's to solve a problem, so an application of machine learning, as well as writing sigmoidal neuronal networks in C++ for weather prediction), and not that much has changed in terms of algorithms or technology etc, there isn't much new just faster CPU's and more memory.

Machine learning has progressed, but it's really not that close to taking jobs en masse yet, and as others have said it will absolutely take many years for companies to take on board the changes and properly understand how to use them... and as with anything else, with the loss of some jobs, new jobs will be created.

"simple calculus"

You understand the percent of the human population that knows how to even do calculus is very small, right?

So, yeah, this thread is about everyone else who does not do advanced math in their daily operations. For example, I was talking about accounting, and it can perform that basic math very well

Pretty sure a huge percentage of people could use the polynomial rule on a basic function, if showed how to do it since it's not exactly hard; chat gpt frequently fails at it if you ask it to differentiate polynomials with a negative power.

And you literally said chat gpt is like '100 geniuses', now you're just saying it can do basic accounting. Stop moving the goalposts, the reason i bought up calculus is because '100 geniuses' should certainly be able to do simple polynomials.

A.I may take some jobs in the near future, but i don't see the kind of mass exodus you're talking about for decades. Now my opinion is just my opinion, but i do have 11 years experience working in software development, so at the very least i know the field pretty well. If you still disagree, that's fair enough, but i'm adding my 2 cents.

For the 5% of the human population that needs it to do calculus, it's not for you (yet).

You're getting too caught up on calculus specifically. It doesn't matter whether most people can do it, if they were shown how to do it they could (drop the power and bring it to the front, woah hard)... and chat gpt is supposed to know how to do it.

The point is, the calculus i asked it to do is very simple, and something perfectly tailored for an A.I, and yet Chat gpt failed at it. What other holes do you think it has, if it struggles with simple math which should be a perfect application for A.I? I've played with it and it often has difficulty with things that a human never would.

You're using an extreme example that it was not designed to do yet.

Something that the vast majority of the human population has no need of.
