“Motivation doesn’t work because it wears out” - dumbest take ever

People who think motivation and positive thinking don’t work because you have to do them every day are some of the dumbest mother fukkers on the planet.

“It doesn’t LAST. If it just fades how motivating can it really be?”

Really bro? I guess cutting my grass doesn’t work then, that chit just grows right back. I guess EATING doesn’t work, I have to do that constantly. Why bother breathing, we’re just gonna have to breathe again right after. Dumbos gonna dumb.

Listen to your older brother here boys: even turning your path 1% closer to the life you want is going to pay incredible dividends IF YOU HOLD COURSE. A ship that goes 1% off course can go far enough off target over the length of an ocean crossing as to miss its destination entirely.

Some people think the fact the fuel keeps burning up is a sign the engine ISNT running?? Lmao. Be smarter than that bros, we’re all gonna make it.

Lol you missed the mark completely

It’s good to be motivated but if your source of motivation is talking to yourself constantly or having to listen to music or having to listen to David goggins at full volume then the source of what you want to achieve is more external than internal

The point is to be DRIVEN

Being driven vs being MOTIVATED is driven comes from within. You don’t need any external motivation because you’ve internalized what you want and get after it each and every day regardless of your circumstances or how you FEEL

When you’re MOTIVATED it FEELS great in the moment yeah but eventually it will wear out. You start to NOT FEEL like working out. NOT FEEL like doing the hard things. Why? Because you haven’t internalized it. You don’t really want it

Yeah as above, i think you completely missed the point.

Nobody is against motivation, but the point is motivation doesn't cut it long term because you won't always be motivated, and this is where discipline comes in. The argument isn't that motivation doesn't work, it's that motivation doesn't work by itself long term, and motivation combined with self discipline is king.

But i hope your rant made you feel better anyway sweet cheeks

This

WTF you talking about OP?

Discipline is doing what needs to be done even if you don’t feel like doing it.

One issue with reading motivation books/tapes is that people often feel like they're being productive just by consuming the material. Then they end up actually doing nothing or just buying the next tape for that next dopamine hit.

Frank Kern said some people buy all his material and never even take the wrapping off.

Brick by brick mentality.

Some days ur hella motivated and lay 100 bricks. Other days, you do 10 bricks.

Sometimes the blueprint is wrong and you have to take the bricks down and start all over. Other times you get defective bricks and need to find new bricks.

To OPs point there are a lot of dumb people out there who don't know how to change their life. Self motivation alone is difficult for a lot of people and doesn't often bring about long term change. Reducing choice, establishing a routine, and finding others to hold you accountable can help form a habit of discipline.

Motivation and encouragement allows you to develop self-discipline and self-realization that your life is better when you have responsibility and work instead of rotting. Show me one happy person that doom scrolls on their phone all day. The motivation and encouragement doesn't last forever but your daily achievements as a man, regardless of how small, do.

This guy gets it.

If you rely on motivation to do anything you're never going to get anything done. The reality is because motivation is temporary it's impossible to remain in that state long enough to really accomplish things. You have to be willing to put in the work when you don't want to. It's really that simple.

I don't think this is entirely a good definition of driven either. It is internalized, but there's still going to be tons of moments you don't want to do things. Don't mistake drive for always wanting to really do them too, because that's just as wrong. Having drive is really the recognition that there's delayed gratification in doing something you don't want to do in the moment
