Recruiters need to deep-throat a shotgun
Every phone call I get from these guys, it's trying to shovel me some chit.
Just got off the phone from one. They wanted a programming gig in "Lie-Nux" (my background is circuits and hardware) where I'd have to relocate to Chicago, for $30/hr no health insurance. They want me to move for that? GFY.
Got a call from a recruiter yesterday, looking for a unicorn. Dude wanted the perfect software/hardware combo for his job, and I had a very close hardware background. His offer was for 12 months, $50/hr, no health insurance. That's not quite a GFY, but it's not an appealing offer either. That's less money than FT makes and plus no bennies.
Got a call earlier this week from some guys in the Bay. They wanted a hardware designer with a masters degree and 6 years exp, willing to work for $55/hr no health insurance. GFY. Entry level engineers in the Bay start at that plus bennies. I pretty much told the guy on the phone that he was offering way too little, and he was like "I have been unable to find any interviewees for this position in 4 weeks." Well yeah, because the contract you're selling is dog chit.
Got a call from a lady yesterday, with a job at my old company that "very closely matched my previous experience." I looked at the listing... it was basically my old job LOL. They asked me if I wanted to relocate to Bangalore and work it on contract. I just told them "you laid me off from that job 3 weeks ago" and hung up. GFY.
My theory is that these guys are preying on H1-Bs who've been laid off, and need to take any job they can to avoid deportation. Either way, I am getting like 2 or 3 cold calls a day, and it's always from some ****** recruiter trying to offer me dog chit money. God I fukking hate them.

I don't think I've ever gotten a legit recruiter call from a ****** They're either something I'm completely unqualified for despite being in the same industry, or completely absurd (literally got a call about a L1 help desk job in Boston (I'm in Houston), 1 month contract, $10/hr "but this is a great opportunity!").
The super specific postings are usually because they already have someone picked out for a H1B, but are required to advertise it to Americans first, and are trying to make sure no Americans apply.

Yes recruiters are useless and typically dumb as hell. I had a recruiter less than a year ago reach out to me and ask me if I wanted to change jobs. I said I was fine where I'm at then he tried to cajole me with "but I could get you 75k/year" okay dude that's the basest of base pay for my field. Im already making quite a bit more than that. The guy goes into this dick lecture about "well for your information sometimes people like to switch jobs and money makes no difference as long as they are happy! Have a good rest of your year..." Lol he actually fcking said that.
I had another one recently asking if I would be interested in tech work, giving me the usual "i saw your resume and you seem like a good fit!" Okay if you saw my resume on DinkedIn you would have noticed I'm currently and engineer, not a tech. Techs make like 60% of what engineers make.
They take no time to learn the field at all and what kind of salaries are typical or expected. Herp derp wanna work in fast food? But i could get you minimum wage!!

Just got off the phone with 3 today...after they called me!
After every one of them...well, we don't have anything right now but we'll keep you in mind.

A wise man once said:
"Suffer fools willingly, because they outnumber you and you'll always have to deal with them at some point"
Their job is to sell you to an employer, and the easiest way to make a sales pitch is to lowball you and offer the client the lowest rate.
Your job is to use the recruiter to score an interview, woo the hiring manager, then demand at least 30% more than the asking price.
It's a game, boyo, you gots to learn how to hustle people who think they're hustling you.

Just tell them to only call you with salaries over some outrageously high number. That works srs.
Worse than recruiters: Customer service people for American companies that are in Bangladesh and can't even understand you when you tell them what your problem is.

I still get no less than 5 inquiries a week for Network Security positions. I havent been an active network security engineer in about 12 years. My profile and all my resumes posted reflect this reality.
...and not only that the jobs are 3 month contract job, $30 an hour, no benefits. So basically a highly skilled job paying $15 an hour after taxes/health - Seems legit

Well they're salespeople for jobs that are either dogchit, like you said, or have such specific requirements they're pretty much looking for a unicorn. Easy to fill jobs don't need recruiters.
You should have some decent recruiters reaching out to you though, I can't imagine there are that many people that do what you do, even with all the H1Bs. It's honestly a good problem to have, many people are in fields that are insanely competative, where job postings for what they do immediately get 500+ applicants.

You can score tons of free swag from them, unlimited coffees and fancy seafood dinners. You can even pretend it’s a date though you know you’d never land someone as good looking as a successful recruiter needs to be.

Recruiters, like those at Robert Half, get paid to fill positions. They would rather find someone overqualified for a role for a fast fill, because of the quick turnover on them. The pay on those jobs are also ass, literally half of what the wage would be had the company posted the position outright.
Try finding a smaller firm in your industry, one with only a handful of people willing to work with you. I had my recruiter reach out to me on linked in and it worked perfect years ago. a lot of the bigger firms are such bs

We really need to limit H1-B visa's here. It would force companies to pay americans more money/more jobs for people here.

OP what you’re talking about is very common in tech.
Companies “offer” jobs to American citizens, but they always have them suck like your examples. Only $60-90k and no benefits? Have to relocate, etc.
Then they can have it on file that they made the job available and then they abuse the visa Indians. Those visa Indians work the longest hours ever, get paid less than the trash offer the recruiters make you or me, and can’t complain because there are literally 100s of thousands of other Indians waiting for a work sponsor.

He didn’t get it, but man just imagine landing a job like that, but living in the Midwest.
Good call on turning down NYC for that. You’d be bunking with roommates if you wanted a slice of the good life. Can’t compete with the Chinese billionaires buying prime manhattan condos for their kids.
