Is that what going to a ski resort is like? Coasting down the mountain shoulder to shoulder with a hoard of other people? I've never done it.

Mammoth Mountain, California kicked off their Winter '23/'24 season on Friday, November 10th, 2023 to much fanfare and excitement. Friday was busy, but skiers and riders showed up en masse on Saturday, November 11th for their first turns of the season. Check out the video below of hundreds of skiers descending Mammoth's 'Broadway' trail.

The "perfect storm" of preseason hype is most likely to blame. Mammoth is the only ski resort in California open, and the excitement from last season's record-setting snow is certainly bubbling over.

It won't be long before Mother Nature dumps an ungodly amount of snow at Mammoth and more terrain will be available to ski/ride.

Don't let the scene of an over-crowded opening weekend cloud your judgement. It's an absolutely massive mountain with one of the best crews in the biz.

What could possibly go wrong?

I don't think this is normal. I don't even understand how they could've got that many people up the hill at the rate that would be necessary for so many to be on the slope at the same time, packed so closely together.
