Anyone here use dexascans during cuts?
I'm getting ready to start a long cut, and want to make sure I am not losing too much muscle. The only way I know to keep tabs on this is through a DS. I know I will lose a lot of water weight in the first week, so I was thinking about waiting a week or so into the cut before getting scanned. When do you guys set a baseline?

I’d recommend doing it before you start just because seeing a huge drop off of weight and water and fat in the initial cutting stage can be very psychologically motivating

I tried it twice at a college. It made me realize that 99.9% of the misc and fitness influencers have no idea WTF they're even talking about when estimating bf%. For example, you can have a lot of fat on your midsection and back, yet have semi-lean legs and arms bringing you into the high teens for bf%. If you posted a physique photo on the misc of such status, the misc would say you're 30%. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

I just need to make sure I'm not burning through muscle with my cal deficit.
People are saying to make sure your glycogen stores are full but they will not be full during the cut so I don't want to baseline with them full, either. I'm thinking I wait a week and piss everything out then proceed?

Going by that calculation, the thinner you are the less you should be cutting. At under 15% the deficit drops under 500 cals, which explains why people lose muscle when they lean out.

It is counter to common knowledge. I am just asking about the baseline but I knew what I am testing would start a ruckus.

I've lost a lot of weight before but regained it due to injury. I've a sense that the calories you need are a bit overblown, but I'd rather nail that down with results. If those results contradict my recent bias, all the better. I am just looking to set a solid baseline of body composition using the Dexascan.
I'd even say 500 cals is too much of a deficit for anyone under 15% bf ded fkn srs

You can use a little bit of that creatine and you won't have to worry about muscle loss.

Alright got a baseline dexa today....174lbs lbm
we'll see what happens in the next month. I'm going to go back and see if I'm burning down Rome.
I've already been following my "diet" for a week just to piss out any excess hydration and glycogen.
