Kn95 or N95 not good enough for current wave

in this day and age don't roll the dice with kn95. Maximise both your fit and filtration because at this point why the hell not. Grab a good old elastomeric, 3m 6100 is the cheapest but if you wanna try something fancier and have the dough by all means go for it, get p100 filters for the model, fit test it and while you're at it, grabbing a pair of cheap safety glasses won't hurt either. If you need to/want to swim in a covid soup these days you really wanna gear up in your best. Put it on not before you enter the store but before you leave your car (or the house if you use public transport), and don't take it off until back in the car/at home.

Keep your kn95 for better times, should they come again, or for less risky outdoors stuff at most.

But don't beat yourself about it, you haven't failed, the society failed you. What you've been doing should be enough. It's not reasonable to put on inviduals, lay people as we are, the burdens of having to do stuff like that. In a normally functioning society wearing a basic kn95 should keep one safe above and beyond - because we would enjoy the safety net of two way masking and highly efficient HEPAs in all indoor places. It's absolute **** we are where we are and the ridiculous amount of effort - with a not insignificant component of pure luck - that's required to remain infection free.

If you can smell through the mask, it is useless.

Source: I have to be fit tested for masks for some of the work I end up doing in refinery settings. You put on the mask and get it adjusted correctly and then they spray around your face with a spray that has a strong smell. If you smell it mask doesn’t work.

Also it needs to cover your eyes too
