Color me shocked, these award shows are complete chit outside of the new game announcements and trailers.

It was extremely distasteful and fukked up that Sven started to pay honor to some of the devs of BG3 who passed away recently, but then they get played off by the teleprompter.


Meanwhile geoff and his lame ass jokes with muppets take up far more time than the speeches.

Looks like the Sony pony crew has already seen that:
True, they should change the name. And they snubbed the most sold game this year (Hogwarts Legacy), and nominated most overhyped trash game (StarFailed).
Award shows were cool when I was little and all we had were three channels but they just seem like a huge circle jerk anymore.

The prompter is okay as the audience don't really see it and it's just a signal to the devs, but the music basically telling them to fuk off was so rude. Basically almost all the devs that gave their speeches got told by that music to fuk off because we got more advertisements to play.

It's interesting because I thought that in the anime world, the Crunchyroll Awards is the counterpart of TGA, but even the Crunchyroll Awards don't play as much advertisement like this and they give ample time for the studios to say thank you.

Also tfw the winners in the other big categories didn't get the chance to speak at all lol

I just find it amazing how some people still try to make such a big deal about this glorified chitshow. It's gotta be one of the dumbest concepts, and a great example of how pretentious and corrupt the gaming scene has become.

That headline is true BTW. "Desperate for validation" is the best way to summarize the entire thing.

Let's be real tea though. If Starfield won GOTY, you would have been over the moon about it even though the award came from this show.

That's just how it is, unfortunately, it's the most popular awards show. If we're looking for a more serious award show for games, I'd say Golden Joystick Awards is probably the best. But TGA generate the most hype and is the most popular, so like it or not, it's going to be what's recognized by the hoi polloi until something changes that.

Nah, I still wouldn't have cared and my thoughts on these award shows would have remained the same. I think the entire concept is stupid and pretentious. Then again I feel the same way about the academy awards as well. Media should be all about the personal enjoyment you get out of it, and it shouldn't matter how some shadowy group of elitists, insiders, and their corrupt cronies rank everything.

I know what I like and I know what stands out to me. Nothing else matters, everything else is validation seeking cope.

Every other industry has an awards show to celebrate itself, games should too.

yesterday was just ridiculously off balance. Barely any time for the winners to actually say anything. it was extremely disrespectful for everyone that attended and voted.
