Here’s a list of new Illinois laws going into effect in 2024

Noncitizen immigrants who have a work permit will be eligible to become police officers.

Noncitiezen immigrants can get a standardized driver’s license, replacing the current Temporary Visitor Driver’s License

Landlords will be required to rent or sell property to undocumented migrants.

Videoconferencing while driving will be banned.

Vaping indoors in public places is banned.

Employees must receive up to two weeks of unpaid leave if a family member is killed in a crime of violence.

Youthful offenders under 21 can no longer be given a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Anyone sentenced to life in prison who has served 40 years becomes eligible for parole.

Gun owners to register banned weapons with the Illinois State Police by January 1st, 2024.

Multi-occupancy, gender-neutral restrooms to be installed in private and public Illinois businesses.

Creation of Task Force to End Homelessness.

Lol..we got good old section 8 over here in CA...literally every single person I know who has rented a property to someone with section 8 had to call the sheriff and had the tenants forcefully removed...oh by way...we also have squatter rights here...that's right...rights for people who are illegally occupying your home without paying a dime...yeah getting that schedule E income is definitely not worth it lol.

If you're gonna be a landlord, there's tricks you can do, but definitely rent to someone who works for the city and has to live in the city. If a city worker isn't paying rent, you pretty much let the department know.

Not worth the hassle my friend...I mean you can write everything off if you plan on deriving rental income on your schedule e of the 1040s or 8825 if you plan on putting it under a corporation...then you have to hire a property manager and hope those checks come in every month. I would personally require a credit report, 6 months bank statements, and proof of employment to whomever you rent to...at this point, commercial real estate is a better investment but I realize not everyone has the liquid funds to just go out and purchase one of those.
