For real, the doom remakes didn't waste any time getting you up to speed with the mechanics etc and those games were sick

BRB DLC every 3 months, if you don't buy it the game is basically unplayable.

That, and also the same 2 battle mechanics. Roll to be invincible after anticipating attack a la monster hunter horizon zero dawn, or , wavy lines over head press O to dodge a la Arkham series, Spiderman, assassins creed.

The xbox 360/Ps3 era was peak imo. No bull**** microtransactions, re-releases, copycats of battle royals, and the games were unique. Now games are so expensive, developers rarely take risks.

It's kinda dull right now. Games are either over-bloated time sinks that overstay their welcome or straight up propaganda pieces due to things like narrative being outsourced to psychotic companies like Sweet Baby.

Video games in the 90s were just so much better. Actively trying to push limits for every aspect; from the technology to the graphics to the storytelling to the humor to the gameplay. Companies like Midway and Rare were probably a blast to work at. Nowadays I bet the vibe is incredibly sterile and corporate.
Nowadays people fall into formulas and try to be the next Fortnite. Sh!t, just look at the GTA VI trailer. It was almost entirely made up of stolen viral videos.

I've been enjoying the hell out of World of Wacraft honestly. I noticed that all the bad opinions on it come from people who have only played the side characters instead of Balance Druid.

the last new game I played to the end and somewhat enjoyed was elden ring, and even it sucked compared to dark souls 1,2,3

I load up some new hyped game and get bored within 20 minutes

think last one I tried was starfield

god damn that was awful, 20 minutes in and just going through the motions, shot up some pirates, no reward or value in anything, just bland science bases everywhere where everything looks the same

I think it all started around fallout 4, game companies knew piece of shiit games could sell if you advertised enough

we'll never see another fallout new vegas or half life 2 again

Bruh, just look at most gaming companies these days. Back when video games were peaking, it was about 95% bros who all shared a similar passion for what they were doing. Now a days it's about 90% sloots and diversity hires who have no passion for what they are doing, their only passion being their politics, social identity, and social media.

I get most of my feedback from friends, misc, and legitimate youtubers who aren't bought.

Nintendo's tendancy to release games without requiring all the online stuff is honestly a huge part of their appeal over the other consoles these days.

OP, I think its a combination of, you're just getting older, but also because there is an oversaturation of games flooding the market and they're accessible on virtually every electronic device you own, some free, some at premium prices, some are just microtransaction money pits and everything in between.

This has caused people to become more picky with the games that they play. I hate to use this phrase, but"Back in My Day"I would only get 1 or maybe 2 video games per year and i'd play those 1-2 games to death. The only way i'd be able to play games on other consoles or a game I didn't get for my birthday/christmas is to use my allowance to rent it at blockbuster or have a friend at school who would let me borrow their game or visit their house to play said game.

Kids today have about a dozen F2P games on their phone, their tablet, their PC and their console. You have blockbuster "movie-games" like the COD games that come out every year and even something as small as removing region locking means games that use to only be available in Japan are now readily available in the US

Back in the old days, games use to be like reading a book. You'd have no idea what the game was like except for the box art and the description of the game on the back of the box. Now days you can go on youtube the day of launch and watch and entire playthrough to see if you like the game.
