Is LA a chithole or are BIG cities in general chitholes?

First time actually exploring LA/Anaheim area. I usually just come for the theme parks. The city is fking disgusting. Homeless everywhere, astronauts, ****** Mexican food places every 50 feet, trash everywhere, everyone is a fking arsehole. Is it like this in lets say some of the other major cities like Houston or Vegas? Living in Hawaii, I can never see myself living with these cockroaches.

I was just there a couple week ago, and first time ever going where I could just explore LA by myself. There are much worse places in the US, but LA is just a crowded nightmare of a place. I don't usually bitch about crowds very much, but the sheer amount of traffic everywhere in LA makes the place completely unlivable..

any major city is overrun by Indian kings now! We own it all!

But srsly big cities are only good if you’re in your 20s/30s once you’re over 40 it’s better to be in a suburb of a big city.

It’s a consequence of poor urban planning. Most of the sunbelt is this way because they have embraced sprawl. When you go to older dense cities like NYC, the crowds are much more manageable. There is a certain orderliness to the traffic. Public transit, walkability and the grid system allow for millions more to move through the streets with less congestion than cities that build these spaghetti roads, wide highways and let everyone loose. There the result is a miserable existence.

I remember driving through Greenville, SC which is a pretty small city and being blown away at the gridlock. It was a traffic nightmare you’d never see in a similar sized metro up north.

I guess I'm just a small Island guy. Can't believe the amount of trash on streets and the highways. Amount of homeless people, pollution, and graffiti everywhere. I could never live here. I like walking outside on the streets and not worrying about getting murdered.

Cities in general become more progressive the larger they get. Cities the size of LA tend to be run by complete nutjobs. It's not just the mayors, activist judges and public prosecutors that allow crime to spread. City planners and operators who were elected due to identity politics and don't know how to keep the roads repaired and utilities operating. Etc

Does anybody know why this effect happens?

Perhaps its because the average sane person feels less incentivized to vote when the population is large because of a lack of community or they feel like their vote doesn't matter. The nutjob lunatics are more inspired to vote. Idk

LA is reaching SF levels. If you see a turd in the street there's a 50/50 chance its human chit.

Nice sarcasm bich boy. When I was in Hollywood there was homeless people on every corner, one dude had literal chit on his shirt talking to himself in front of some degenerate emo store. At the Grand Central Market on LA while getting donuts there were homeless people walking in and out of the food court, they literally smelled like piss and chit. Everyone just acted normal like it was an everyday thing. I guess some of you guys are conditioned to it all, it becomes normal. Not for me.

Kinda was curious if I was overreacting when I left Anaheim. Nowhere near as bad as LA but druggies, homeless in tents right out in the open, etc. Left for Omaha, its not even 1/50th as bad but even here I see it getting worse after 3 years.

As a city dweller cities are only viable provided they are mostly if not completed inhabited by the natives but native city dwellers the world over are in flight due to the endless influx of invaders. Rip cities. The world over being a figure of speech

It's crazy too because I don't recall it being this bad last time I came here. I stayed in the Brea area which was actually pretty nice. Now staying in Fullerton and driving around, it's a chithole. It seems like once I get out of the Disney area, everything is chit. Of course, it's not nearly as bad as LA.

It's fun to visit, but that's about it. All of California feels really dystopian in a really unique way relative to the rest of the US. I think because of how unaffordable it's become and those that got in there first digging their heels in. A lot of the coast is full of modest working class homes, they're nothing special, but you look on zillow and they're all over a million, sometimes several million, it's weird.

The people are weird, not everyone obviously, but more than in other parts of the country. The whole west coast has that sort of vibe. It was like that even before covid, but it's especially bad now. I'm out there a lot, and I actually just got back again, and I spent a few days just walking around LA. I've done that all around the US, and I wouldn't say it's the worst, but the COL situation there must strain people, I'd imagine. It's kinda depressing.

If I were to go back I'd probably stay around Fountain Valley/Costa Mesa/Newport area. Chill area. Surprised Brea is chit, but they have lost a lot of character over the years. My old man had a lot of accounts in Placentia/Yorba Linda, thought it'd be nice to live secluded windy area..

yes most of LA is a dump.

JFL @ *******s paying millions to live in that chithole. There are 2 or 3 areas that are actually worth living and you need to be legit balling out of control to afford a home there.

Yeah the nice areas are far and few. I just don't see the hype. And the weather is nothing compared to Hawaii
