Anyone play Magic: the Gathering?

I was wondering about Magic or Warhammer but I heard Warhammer takes a lot of $$..

Anyone play table top?

Used to play Magic years ago. Depending on what formats you play it can get very expensive too. Had fun but just fell out of it over the years.

There's a game MTG:Arena that's basically the same as the card game but online instead of in person. I think it's free to get started so you can check it out and see if you like the card game.

I also used to play Magic the Gathering. I have like 4 decks sitting here sealed because I intended on teaching my old lady how to play but never got around to it.

I've played off and on since 1996. Its a great game. It's the first and (IMO the best) TCG. Its not cheap though lol its a very expensive hobby if you are wanting to go the paper route. As someone else mentioned download MTG arena on your phone/PC and get a feel for the game and see if you like it. Alot of people just play exclusively on Arena these days.

I want to learn.. You think I should pick up a dummies book or just youtube videos?

No just download arena and play it because its free and has tutorials that teach you how to play.

Gotcha.. NGL I kinda wanted something where I can play in person. Saw some videos of tourneys at local shops and looked fun. I'll check Arena so I know how to play first tho thanks.

I never played it competitively or too seriously, but when I was a college student I had a part time job at the IT help desk. They would play MTG most evenings, srs. Different game modes, but especially Commander.

I think I never spent more than like $50, but I only had one deck.

I know some serious tournament paper decks can be like $1k, but I think most of them are between $200-500.

You don't HAVE to be that competitive though. Especially if you already have friends who play.

Oh for sure. I highly recommend you play in person eventually as to me thats part of the fun (obsessively shuffling the cards in my hand not hanging out with neckbeards lulz) but yes Arena is a pretty risk free way to try the game out and see if its something you like.

Played it years ago with a gf who also did. Still got a couple of decks somewhere.

These days, I read they have a lot of crossovers like Jurassic Park.
