ITT: Anyone have any renewed new year's lifting goals/what are your 2024 objectives?

+ how will you work to achieve said objectives?

On my end, business as usual for now but will be beginning my once-a-year cut end of February. I'm poised to shred down more than I ever have given my current body comp I've been working hard to maintain. I managed to put on only 6-ish true pounds since last spring. It'll probably be my biggest challenge but my angus is ready for a challenge. Gonna be a whole other level of discomfort.

godspeed to everyone here and your lifting goals. For the non-lifters - it's never too early to start.

Hit my 200lb OHP at the very last minute last year. Contemplating going for a 500lb squat. It's just that squats are so fukking haaaaaaaarrrrrrrd though!

I spent all of 2023 training for strength and in turn gained 30lbs back of the 60 I lost. I was able to achieve a 6 plate DL, 5 Plate squat, 2 plate overhead press, and I added 20lbs to my bench. I also started competing in the Highland games along with starting TRT for diagnosed hypogonadism

So this year my goal will be to get my weight around 225 and keep building my throws up for the highland games so that I can start getting podiums at meets. In addition to that I will work on my endurance so that I can ride my KTM for longer out on the trails and potentially get into hare scrambles.

I suppose this year will be more geared to improve my performance doing the things I love.

My objective is to get my knee/lower leg healed and then get back to my normal workout routine with more cardio than normal thrown in. We're going to a national park next year so gotta train for those hikes. Getting MRI today to see what's up with it not healing well so far. Surgeon thinks it may be a failed repair. Either that or I'm just healing slower than normal. He said total recovery would be around 3 months and I"m 2 months in but it's def not where it should be for 2 months.

What's going on with your leg? You probably posted about it in another thread but I must have missed it.

Also, strong username to injury correlation

Root tear in my meniscus. Spent almost all of 2023 injured. It started hurting last Feb but the pain was in my calf mostly so thought it was just a strain or something. Took time off all lower body and it didn't get better so finally went to orthopedic surgeon in June. It took 3 months to get it diagnosed and find out what was wrong. Then had surgery Nov 2nd. It's improved since then and since my last visit to surgeon in Dec but not as much as it should have. So getting MRI today to see if it'll show what's going on. If it's a failed root repair, which he said is not uncommon, then I need another surgery to clean it up.

I'd like to drop 20 and maybe be a little more consistent in my workouts. Probably the holiday season but I've had trouble fitting them in at times.

Man that sucks, really sorry to hear that. Hope your recovery goes well from this point onward. Years ago, I split my tibial plateau. That was a pain in the ass to recover from.

That sounds painful! Thanks, I really hope it's just slow healing and I don't need another surgery. Then again the clean up is less recovery than the repair so I really wish they'd just done that to begin with. Doing everything I'm supposed to be so would be nice if it would just heal already.

I have pretty much maintained my lifts , BF , LBM etc.. etc... over the last 5-6 years which is fine by me! I am done trying to impress the world with how much weight I can relocate... As long as I like what I see in the mirror and strength remains in the ballpark im solid.

But...

What I have decided that needs more attention , consistency , & planning is my overall health. For the last 20y I have only really been concerned with how big I could get which means cardiovascular health took a distant back seat... I am 42yo and dont seem to be getting any younger (yet) so longevity is starting to come into play.

1) Committed myself to 90days of cold showers first thing out of bed in the A.M. for a minimum of 3m. If I accomplish this goal I will be purchasing a cold plunge to use indefinitely...

2) Also purchased a Sauna that has yet to show up but having wrestled in H.S. and a bit in college I am no stranger to it... and have enjoyed using them when training at gyms that were equipped. I really had no idea what exactly the health benefits were until a few years ago , I just know that when incorporating 10-20m a day into my daily routine I always felt amazing.

3) I have always used low carb & carb cycling when cutting but once I had reach my goal BF% would slowly bring them back in to my nutrition plan. This has always been easy and effective thus making any of the "fad diets" pretty obsolete , I have always made changes to my lifestyle habits for the long term... That said , since January is unofficially "Carnivore" month I am going all in for 3 months and plan on recording my results weekly for comparison to my normal nutrition plan . I have noticed I am being plagued by small injuries more and more (on top of my normal meathead injuries) . Any help to reduce inflammation and sustain it sounds pretty appealing at this point.

Cliff Notes: Just trying to stay juicy till the end ...

I've benched 225lbs before
I've ran a 5m59s mile before

It would really be something if I could do both in the same day.

Also, just did my 1st class of boxing yesterday. I want 1 amateur boxing victory to my name.

Great goals. It's nice to read someone who really thinks about and fleshes out personal goals + focuses on longevity, well-being, and growth.

I used to be 50 pounds heavier in the past and was focused on getting as big and strong as possible. I leaned out considerably in the recent years and it's difficult to put into words just how much better I feel, both physically and psychologically.

Best of luck!

This might be the first year of my lifting career where I focus more on aesthetics than just being big/strong.

A big part of it is just to have a change of pace, but other contributing factors include two non-lifting-related injuries which made strength training last year more difficult than I care to rationalize to myself (fukk getting older and increased injury risk and recovery time...), and that after all these years I actually am kind of curious what I'd look like if I focused more on the aesthetics-side of things.

My game plan is to cut to ~208-212 range by the end of this year (currently ~223-230 depending on hydration level, chit-taken or not, time of day, etc...), and simultaneously shift my training to include a bit more isolation for stuff I typically ignore (arms, delt isolation, etc.).

We'll see how successful I am. I've done cuts before (most recently from 242 to 222), but I haven't been below 220 in like 9 years so no idea how I will feel once I get down into the low teens or below. Hoping I actually end up feeling pretty good day to day.

Always went for being big over lean but as I'm a truck driver/crane operator I sit on my ass a lot these days and got to the age where it's catching up to me. I'm down to lifting 3x a week instead of 6x I used to do pre covid but I'm gonna start running(no homo) and drop some weight this year. No point having the arms hug the sleeves when your bellys hanging out your tight t whenever you move.

Just continuing mine. Already down 40# but still need to lose at least 20# of bodyfat. Hired a coach and it's the best decision I made.

There seems to be a lot of similar goals ITT relating to becoming lighter rather than focusing on size and strength. That's interesting because it was my own goal I began working towards 4-5 years ago.

I will say this, it was definitely a good move, at least for me.

There also seems to be a direct correlation between this kind of goal and getting older.
