If you were to retire or live outside of the US, what country/city provides the best value/highest quality of living?

Would you choose Mexico City, somewhere in Columbia, Buenos Aires, or would you go to Barcelona, lisbon, or maybe a different cheap european country?

Haven't been to Asia so open to hearing options for that as well.

Belgium

It depends on your goals.

If you have dollars that you exchange on the black market, it's tough to beat Buenos Aires right now. I personally prefer the vibe of Brazil and Colombia to Argentina.

Also, Cape Town South Africa was a really high quality of life, especially if you have dollars. If you had a job earning like $2000 per month, you could live like a king there.

Mexico City is nice, but it's actually not particularly cheap. I was surprised to find that dinner and drinks at a nice place was still like $50-60 there(and they expected tips), which kinda took some of the fun away.

Yeah but then you have to live in a walled compound, hire armed security and hope nobody kidnaps you for ransom.

Cape Town is different than the rest of S Africa. It's generally safe. There were plenty of times I was walking around at 3-4AM and never had any issues(although many people would warn you that it was unsafe).

Albania or Montenegro, one I need to do more research on is the Azores.

Yea in the nicer parts of Mexico city, weren't incredibly cheap. Pretty cheap in most of the areas though. At the price point of Mexico City would probably rather live in Europe. Advantage of Mexico city though is proximity to US and better weather.

What do you like about Albania/Montenegro?

bull****, nobody living like a king for 2k per month in Cape Town. spent a year in ZA in total, food and other essentials are cheaper. oddly things like mobile data and internet are **** for a similar price comparatively. a good rental property won't be cheap. I lived in the mount rhodes development near little lions head overlooking llandudno, also in Sea Pointe for a bit.

If you're living on the beach in a house or something, it might not be that cheap. But you could live in a legit decent hotel for $30/night there, which is $900/mo. I'm sure you could easily keep the rest of your expenses to under $1100/mo.

I'm not talking living in a penthouse for that price, but you can live a life that would cost you probably $7000/mo in a major US City for that price, and quality of life would be pretty similar.

Personally, I wouldn't want to live on the beach there as it seemed kinda boring at night. Day trips to the beach were easy enough, and there weren't some massive benefits to living there as opposed to just taking the 6 minute Uber ride.

Fairly cheap, as cheap as a European country can be. Great scenery, all the Balkan countries do. They are people that are proud of their countries, so they actually take care of their people. Low crime rates and are easy to immigrate to. The people are nice and won't try to scam you. Honestly its better than the U.S, they haven't done anything to really impede on people's rights and even though they don't have a bill of rights like the U.S. I know of people in Albania who own Aks, RPGs and Mortars.

I'd go to Auckland, New Zealand to retire...alway from everything else.
