Interesting. I see the benefit for Netflix but not sure I see the benefits for WWE.

I view it the other way round.

$10bn for 10 year deal with the option for Netflix to cancel after 5 years.

Netflix got their pants pulled down.

I don't get how so many people are watching wrestling when they haven't created any new stars in 20 years and all the shows are the same format

Like how does it actually work now?

if you're netflix you make this move for a few reasons. Amazon has NFL, Peacock has NFL. Apple plus or whatever it is had baseball. If you want in on the game and want some live action entertainment where are you going? what do you own in that category? what makes netflix special anymore? sure they produce their own content but so does Disney+, so does Amazon etc.

WWE never ends. It's a weekly event and - if you enjoy it, or if your kids enjoy it - you have to see what happens. seeing highlights the next day doesn't work for people who love it.

there isn't much else out there with no offseason that has an audience of millions.

The deal with fox is over. Smackdown is moving to USA in October, NXT will be on CW, Raw on Netflix and premium live events on peacock. WWE is making bank.

Its a change in behavior I believe will have some growing pains. Will people remember RAW is on Netflix? You know how many times I forgot TNF was on Prime because I didn't see it scrolling through the channels? Out of site out of mind, especially if its the same old boring thing. Hopefully it means no more censored "holy chit" chants and a little more edginess not having to comply with FCC regulations

They also have an option to extend for an additional 10 years and a lot of WWE fans that don’t have netherflix they will almost certainly sign up to watch Raw and because it’s a weekly show they want face the churn they do after big shows or whatever end.

we don't get USA in Canada so where will Smackdown broadcast in Canada, maybe SN360 keeps it?
