Had to hug my crying 9 year old to sleep today because her friends laughed at her

our society is so phucked up. sloot moms letting 9 year olds have phone/tiktok? Where are the dads?
Her one friend is obsessed with tik tok trends and has a shelf full of make up, face serums, lotions, face masks, etc Expensive stuff you can only get in places like ulta or Sephora.

She FaceTimed my daughter and between her and another girl began comparing what they have and how expensive they are. It got to my daughter and my daughter said she put her phone down and began frantically gathering her things to show them. She made a little display on her desk with a chapstick, some jergens lotion, a hair brush, and my curlers..and showed the girls thinking they’d be impressed. They ended up laughing at her so she hung up and cried. We had a long talk while cuddling about what these girls are doing. How they’re all just copying each other and aren’t thinking for themselves. How they don’t need any of that crap and are going to eventually harm their skin because half of what they’re putting on themselves have acids and unknown substances meant for older women. And how she should know how naturally beautiful she is and if she ever wants to try new skin care we will do it together and get safe things like a lotion for kids with spf. This made her happy and she calmed down. Now I’m just laying here watching her sleep and my heart is still broken for her..I got up a bit ago to see her little display with my curlers and teared up at her innocence. I hate tik tok so much…

Edit; my daughter doesn’t watch tik tok and she’s only allowed to FaceTime for an hour or so each night if she does her homework. We don’t let her be on her phone for long, it was meant to be so she could call us after school during pick up. But after tonight we told her maybe a nice break from her phone is in order and she agreed

Girls are the worst. Boys can be awful, too, but girls are straight up b*tches. There is no hack for them either....one day they can have 10 friends and the next day, out of nowhere, terrorized by the same group and treated like a social leper.

Also, if she's the only one in her class without a phone and tiktok she will be treated like a social outcast, so there's that.

my nephew didnt get a phone until he was a senior in high school leaving for college lol (this was like 2 years ago). no social media from him

he was still popular because he was a football star and QB of his team. number one thing for boys is get them in sports, have them be good, and they can bypass all the trends and still be popular.

girls.....different story. they engage in nuclear warfare through electronics with no regard for anyone else.

Society is so fuked.

Notice how she didn’t once teach her kid how completely inappropriate it is to discuss what you can afford and how expensive the things you have are compared to others. How it’s an ugly mindset that revolves around either jealousy or flaunting wealth.

Just gaslit the kid on a bunch of cope on why the kid didn’t need the stuff. It should of been a life lesson on being a miserable person no one finds likable versus what is important in life.

This is all true. Getting a girl to play a sport and be good at it will help a lot...but if they are not good at anything (not in your control at all) it's a deficit for sure. They need it for the confidence boost of which they have very very low confidence between the ages of 11-18. Once released from high school it gets much, much better in particular for girls.

That sucks, but kids being chitty to each other is nothing new. If anything, I'm surprised it took until the kid was 9 years old before they experience being treated like total chit socially to the point where it would make them feelthatbad.

In any case, while I don't condone kids being bullies to each other, they really need to be taught to have thick skin early on in life. Millennials and zoomers proved that coddling them and telling them to have good cries about things doesn't ultimately help them in life, so I think it's time we finally put that nonsense to rest.

yes the moment they leave their parents house and enter college they realize they can control simp men to do everything for them and power dynamic changes. that why men age 18 to 25 struggle so much vs women.

If a parent can afford private school, in my experience the kids are actually nicer there. I think maybe the parents are just better at parenting overall and teach the kids more empathy and social skills? I don't know but it's my experience. Maybe they just figure your parents have $$ so there is a bit of respect that comes right out the gate from that? Who knows but socially in my experience definitely better.

Good for her…sounds like she has a decent parent too

Everybody needs to get made fun of or face adversity and will make her grow into a better person

Also shes right about the skin chit…all she needs is moisturizer/lotion and lip balm at 9…wtf are pre-teens doing putting make up on…chit should be banned for anybody before 16 or something

Well you can take comfort in the fact that they do. Even the ones who are popular and seem to have tons of friends are constantly living under the threat of it all being pulled out from under them. And the jealousy they have for each other eats away at them every day. They are never content.

The happiest ones are the nerd group and band and theater people. But they are miserable in their own ways, mainly because they are not considered cool.

We really need to reconsider slavery. The idea was good, but the execution was a little off. Race shouldn't be the factor we enslave by, it should be gender.

Let's not abandon it as a species just because our first attempt wasn't perfect.

We have neighbors who moved from a smaller town 4 years ago, downsized house so they could put their elementary school daughter in our school district. Flash forward a couple years they pulled her out to homeschool because of bullying. Kind of sad when you consider the whole scenario. It starts early with girls.

There's apparently a trend of 9-12 year old girls wanting/getting/using retinol products (paid by parents) because of tiktok vids.

Dammit that sucks. I wish they could have put her in a private school, but so glad they took her out to homeschool. She's 100% better off.

My oldest is a son, #2 is a girl. Son is graduating this year, daughter is a freshmen. I don't know that I could say one has had an easier time than the other with friends, the son has had difficulties here and there. Overall, I think the daughter has agonized more over friends. When I was going through school the girls definitely had a reputation for being meaner.

Being a teenager is just tough in general and it hasn't gotten easier since I was one.
