What happened to bowling?

Why doesn't anyone go bowling anymore? Seriously, it's a great date activity.

It's somewhat active, a lot of laughs, you can drink (or not drink), you can eat, it can be competitive if you want.

For first dates it's great because you can see how coordinated they are, if they know how to have fun or take themselves too seriously, check out their backside many times with no judgement.

Why is this activity now obsolete, misc?

It's always packed whenever I go.

One of my favorite date ideas as well. Dinner is boring as fuk for me, and you don't talk during a movie.

Every time I go bowling the places have a good amount people there. I agree though, it is fun and is a good date activity.

It's because smart phones and social media have really destroyed a lot of these hobbies. People do things more by themselves now and less with community.

The bowling alleys around here are gone now srs

We probably go 2-3x a year, usually in the winter. It's a good place to meet up with old friends, have a few beers and still bring kids along. My only reference to modern pop music comes from whatever they play in the bowling alley, to the point when I hear it outside of the bowling alley, I call it "bowling alley music."

It's always pretty packed when we go, normally have to plan on going around 5 to avoid the afternoon and after-dinner crowds. Son had a birthday party last year and the place was hopping at 11AM too.

My local bowling alley is usually busy as well when we go. They only have leagues during the warm months though but winter they are open more days for open bowl.

There are a couple bowling alleys left near me, but most have been replaced with these hipster activity centers. Not sure how to describe it but I’m sure brahs are aware. They’re like repurposed warehouses with a huge bar, some chitty Applebees tier food, bowling alleys with LED lights and pop culture themes, maybe a couple foosball or air hockey tables and darts.

Yeah but less emphasis on the gaming aspect, more on socializing and drinking. There’s some smaller privately owned spots near me like that.

All you do is put your middle and ring fingers in the two holes next to each other, your thumb in the hole further away, get into position, and shove the entire bowling bowl up your ass.

Because A) People don't do chit anymore.

And B) At least where I live, bowling is extremely expensive, much much more expensive than even a higher end dinner date. God help you if you buy any food or a beer.....beer's will be $10/each, mixed drink $18/each, 1 dozen chicken wings $25. And 1 lane, renting 2 shoes, 2 balls will be for 1 hour of time (they do it by hours, not # of games, and 1hr is the minimum) is $112.

So add it together, $112 for 1hr bowling, 2 beers ($20), Crappy Chicken wings ($25) = $157, then with sales tax it's about $170.

$170 AN HOUR to bowl....and that's doing it on THE CHEAP, just 2 beers and splitting 12 chicken wings. Bro....I'm a baller and there's no way in hell I'm paying that.

(These are accurate prices, just looked them up for my local alley)
