I'm in my thirties and fat and I was drinking too much brahs. Am I gonna make it?

I stopped lifting when I had kids nearly 10 years ago. Started drinking too much. Got fat. I just felt beat down by work stress, and I wasnt taking care of myself at all.

I quit drinking last month and I've been getting back in the gym, lifting heavy with one day of HIIT like the old days. Pounds are dropping off fast, not even watching my diet other than trying to eat clean-ish. Face and skin is way clearer. Sleeping great, and I feel a lot sharper mentally. I saw a doctor for the first time in several years. Blood work isnt perfect but not bad, he has some stuff he wants me to work on. I'm working out more for health than dem gainz these days.

Thankfully I married a trad wife who is ride or die - been together since HS. She porked up a bit too, but she's working on it with me. Kids are saying good job dave dad. I've been taking my oldest with me to the gym. Some girl in his third grade class does gymnastics there in the evenings, and he's been spitting some pretty solid elementary school game. He's way cooler than I was as a kid.

Are we still gonna make it? I think I'm gonna make it brahs.

Life is tough, everyone uses something to get though it. If the booze isn't causing much hinderance I wouldn't worry about it

Choose whatever you think is best, seems like you got a good head on your shoulders

We're all gonna make it brah

Nah, if OP thinks he's drinking too much, then he definitely is. There's no better sign that someone needs to cut back on their drinking like when they themselves acknowledge it.

That being said, good on OP for making positive changes for himself. I'd absolutely encourage him to cut back on the boozing since he raised the issue himself. No one was ever worse off for drinking less.

The hysteria around alcohol in the west is ridiculous. People that drink 1-2 beers a day convince themselves that they are alcoholics. Its mostly societal programming

Like I implied, OP seems pretty self aware, if he has a problem he would know it

You've got it totally backwards. It's more like people who drink 6 - 12 beers a day (with 6 being on the low end) and getting legit drunk on the weekends spend 10+ years convincing themselves it's not that big of a deal, until it starts biting them in the asss. Drinking is incredibly normalized in the west.

Far from it. The west is incredibly puritan. Go to asia or even the UK to see what normalized drinking is

What do you consider "drinking like a fish"? A 24 case a day? A 0.75 of hard liquor a day? A 1 liter? But yeah, when you get to that point, you've quit doing it for fun a long time ago.

Bro I was drinking wayyyy too much. I'm talking 6+ drinks, often more, especially on weekends. That is just the norm in my family and it was what I saw every single day my whole life. No DUI, problems at work, or any of that. I didnt drink to forget or whatever, I was just boozing because it felt good and up until recently, it didnt affect me negatively. Hangovers were getting much worse and I was getting disgusted with my beer gut. Also, I want to set a better example for my kids so they dont grow up to think its normal like I did. I hope I didnt do that already.

I feel that it's best if I just abstain. I forgot how much free time I have to do more positive things when I'm sober, and I've been feeling like I didnt have enough time to do chit. Reading, lifting with my boys, working on my finances, etc are all way more rewarding.

Not a humble brag thread at all. I would have been too ashamed to post on here a year ago to be completely honest.

Feels good to be getting my chit back together though, I'll take that.

Edit: you cannot say p h a g g o t anymore but I saw like 3 tranny diks on here. Wtf

Edit again: Neg me on spread you miserable phucks. I'll phuck u till u love me.
