Anyone ever done soil solarization?

I’ve got some weeds and overgrown grass in my back yard that I kinda want to replace with mulch. I’ve heard soil solarization is great for killing it all in preparation for mulching.

Anyone ever do it? It’s obviously winter and I live in Oregon (nice and wet right now), so it may not be the best time, but I think it may still work? Idk

Did it in my yard probably 8 years ago. Quick and easy to do, but idk how effective it's gonna be with your temperatures. I'd wait till may or whenever your hotter months are.

Yeah I would, but I’m thinking of selling and moving in spring or summer, so I’d like to get a jump on it. I’m thinking about spraying pesticide to kinda help kill faster.

Edit: on spread

As long as your temps are over 70 consistently I think you'd be fine to start it now. There's definitely no harm in doing it other than potentially just wasting a bit of time. I'm very anti-pesticide when it comes to my yard, but if you're just looking to get rid of the property then more power to you.

Yeah, normally I’d avoid it unless I’m just trying to trash the entire thing, like this situation lol.

It’s consistently like 50 hereI guess I can keep it out a little longer than normal suggestions until I notice things dying
