Pendlay rows vs barbell rows

Which do you brahs prefer and why? Yes I know pendlay rows are done with a barbell but I’m talking about holding the bar in the air vs resetting the bar on the ground for every rep.

When I first started lifting I did traditional barbell rows but found it very easy to cheat. Pendlay rows I still cheat but it’s not as ridiculous as when I do regular barbell rows

RIP lower back if you also squat and deadlift in the week. Give it some rest.

I always did pendlay but srs you can't do them if your lower back and hamstrings are still tired. Do some DB rows etc instead, something that doesn't tax lower back so much. Don't fuk around with lower back, if it's tired, rest it and stretch it but don't blast it some more.

But nowdays, at least for bodybuilding i find supinated grip barbell rows superior, and i feel them more in the lat.

Rippletits recommended these a few years ago, but shortly retracted his statement because they seemed to be a common cause of bicep tears

I only do Supinated Grip rows now

Too much pronated grips on bench press, military, and pullups. That chite will irritate your elbow joints eventually.

SupGrips will unwind your elbow joint nicely.

Do regular barbell rows. Pendlay rows are too harsh on your lower back

Also. Look at how the top fitness influencers tell you how NOT to barbell row. That’s exactly how you should barbell row. Using very strict form has the effect of making it too hard on your lower back
Best lifts:
Bench press: 315x5
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 205x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

Yeah, underhand rows are GOAT and you look much more juicy in the mirror. Also the hand/arm position is visually similar with plowing and bishes notice

I can see how that might be a problem, but i've done them for ages without issue, just don't let your ego get in the way with weight. (i do them with 225, i could 'regular barbell row' a lot more, somewhere around 315 for reps). So i feel like at least a part of the risk is mitigated because you're using less weight.

The path i row at is also kind of slightly diagonal (kind of the path up my thigh), which feels like it lowers stress on the bicep, and i don't do them like pendlay rows with momentum, i do them very controlled which i think is the right way to do them to reduce risk of injury further. I think you just have to start conservative and feel out the form a bit, but to me the path just feels much more 'natural' than any regular barbell row path.

Anyway just my 2 cents, i really enjoy them with a supinated grip and i've seen better results in my lats with them, as opposed to regular BB rows or pendlay rows.

Do w/e tf you wanna do

I’d pick BB rows out of the two

But chest supported row is the all time GOAT

Pendlay rows are cooler to pull off in the gym, but both are subpar for back development.

Seal rows, chest-supported T-bar rows, and most importantly the single handed cable rows are far superior for engaging the appropriate back muscles
