Semi-miring if true.

I'm at around $100k liquid. If/when I get let go without a compensation package I could survive 3+ years without touching my retirement or selling anything. I think $200k liquid would make that number 6+ years pretty easily.

If I were in your shoes, I'd take 3-6 months off as a break. View it like a Summer vacation of degenmaxxing like you might've done in high school or something. Then the next 3-6 months I'd work towards a new relevant certification (if such a thing exists in your field) and try to get a new job elsewhere.

Yeah I have considered options such as you mentioned, 3 months at max.

A lot of us struggle with this, I commend ratfish for being upfront and real about it. A coward like me laughs about it in the background

I don't really care about having a job anymore, working a 9-5 isn't for me. Where are the uncharted islands? Where is the new world filled with gold and adventure? The only people who can tolerate modern life are souless automatons.

I mean... idk man, how could anyone with a soul tolerate this?

Well, if that is what they care about in life: making 200k... good for them. I will be making that in 7 years. Could not care less.

Imagine having $200k in savings and worrying about a thing in life.

It literally makes zero difference whether you’re employed or not. You’re rich.

Being an alcoholic isn’t for everyone. If you can’t be a functioning alcoholic, it’s probably time to get sober boyo.
Nah bro I’m sweet.

I think GuineaDago585 is being a little extreme, unless he implies moving to the Philippines or something. But in my neck of the woods, you can maintain a typical rentcel CoL for below $3k/mo. Obviously inflation will raise that but by and large it should still give you 4-5 years depending on your consumemaxxing levels.

Soul only matters with family and super close friends. The rest is all a social status egomax public performance. People do care about it all still, but only when they've had enough time with you, and become more open and vulnerable with you.

Mirin

I mean mirin the savings not the alcoholism.

How old are you? Do you rent or how much is your mortgage repayments? Or live with parents?

$200k and spending wisely means you can NEETmax for a while before recharging your batteries and looking for a new job.

If I had $200k savings I’d probably go NEET. I’m what around $95k savings right now. Think once I save around $150k I may quit and NEET for a bit.

Damn, feel for ya OP.

While I don't have a problem drinking at work... all it would take is one little "oopsie" while I'm drunk or doing blow at work to lose my job. I'd be sad af.
