Anyone elses friend group addicted to sports gambling?
I've always been pro-legalization of gambling (libertarian boyos govt shouldnt tell you what to do with your money) but got damn the nonstop commercials is so annoying, and half my friends do nothing but share their ludicris parlays on sports they previously didnt care about. Think many of them are getting sucked in bad. If you do a handful of $10 parlays a day that probably feels like nothing, but quickly adds up to a grand a month just being flushed down the toilet. At least back in the day you had to go to a sportsbook, or maybe even a computer terminal to place a bet. Now it's instantaneous.
The good news is it's just another vice that attracts lemmings to spend their energy on which puts you in an even stronger position if you abstain. But man just like with drinking, weed, or any of those other addictions the problem is you need to get a real hobby to give you some fulfillment and joy in life.
Not against any of that stuff in moderation obviously but have friends who always complain about their student loans, their car debt, etc. now trying to get rich quick from this chit and they have no clue that the house will always win in the end

Yep it’s annoying af. Back in 2016/2017 when I started, I was the only one in my friend group that did it. Now almost half of them do it and many are annoying about it too.

It will be a major problem 10 years from now.
A casino you can't turn off, in your pocket at all times, sending you notifications, and using machine learning to figure the exact best way to hook you and drain your wallet.

Have a co worker who copes hard on Monday about all his $10 losses, but always tells you about that big win from 4 months ago. But he cant make up the money by working the weekends, because that's when the games are...negative feedback loop achieved.

If you stick to EV bets, you will profit in the long run. Bet parlays and you are burning money

Ive been around gamblers and sports gamblers my whole life. Was fortunate enough I guess to see addicts up close in the early 2000s before this tech came into play and legalization happened. Its like knowing the end to the story and it isnt pretty.
IMO you can gamble once a week in small amounts and its whatever. But everyone these days is chasing parlays or bets on sports they hardly follow on like a tuesday or thursday now, and even if the bets are small they are still numerous in quantity. Death by 1000 cuts.

No. Almost all my friends had the underground accounts that you had you use crypto to put your money in. All of them have since deleted their accounts and aren’t going back.
Luckly none of my friends are addicts and once they lost a few hundred were able to stop and move on.
Its nice to have one friend who has an account who can place the occasional bet for you so you don’t have to have an account yourself
Gambling on sports is already a big problem and it’s just going to get worse. All my friends little brothers or nephews that are teenagers or young twenties are super into it. Gambling money they don’t really have.
Also if you didn’t think sports were “rigged/ for entertainment” already, how tf can you cope with every major sport partnering with casinos and gambling platforms directly.
