Is the barbell hip thrust the most attention wh0r3 exercise u see at the gym?

For a couple years I was like yeah, ok I guess it's good to see a girl working with a barbell, but now it's clear that hip thrusts are just an attention HO exercise. Legit the only reason girls do this exercise is because they think they look hot doing it and have zero idea what muscles it is building or if it has any practical use. And to me it's not even that hot, it just looks stupid. Girl doing a squat in tight spandex is close behind in attention Wh0r3 territory. Starting to think that many girls just go to the gym to prance around in front of guys, enjoying the attention.

As an addendum, I also see gay guys doing this exercise. For straight guys, the comparable exercise would probably be standing curls in front of the mirror -- but at least half those guys are doing it for actual muscle-building and not just looking cool.

It's ridiculous looking. Only noticed it becoming popular in the last 2-3 yrs, definitely social-media driven. I don't think I ever saw anyone doing this exercise until 2021 and I've been going to gyms since the 90s.

It didnt even exist until about 2 years ago , now every female seems to have it as a staple of their routine.

Its hands down the stupidest exercise.

Add yoga masters that take up a flat bench or power rack to do yoga moves to the list, too. And they always get offended if you ask them how much longer they need to misuse the equipment for yoga so you can use it for lifting, even when you are super polite about it.

Study showed that hip thrust and squat were basically equal in terms of gains for the glutes:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/art...%20wall%20push.

But hip thrust allows women to show off with higher weight because the ROM is far less and it doesn't require a squat rack. And of course, the attention factor comes into play.

only popular among women in the past 2-3 years.

I use to do high volume hip thrusts (135lbs) after deadlifts, and I haven't had deadlifts in my routine for almost 10 years (since visiting Snap City) so its been around for quite some time.

It's been a lot longer than two two years, but yeah, it's fairly new and useless.

It's been more like 10-15 years.

Bret Contreras was talking about these and people were doing them back in like 2010.

They just started coming out with machines and stuff for it in the past couple of years though, which I'm sure has made it much more visible.

You can’t even check for camel toe anymore for fear of being branded a creep.

I train at home now.

The one where they're standing on the abductor machine

Another far less common one but very whoreish is when they put the bar or the cable crossover structure between their cheeks and bend over with resistance to work their abs

Saw a guy doing it today. I don't know if he's ghey but he def looked ghey doing it. The standing leg/glute extension with the cable attachment is another whor3 exercise but I kinda like seeing girls doing that one.

i do hip thrusts, but im glad i train at home. i dont know why, but i would feel awkward doing this exercise in a public gym

regarding actual practicality, it is a very beneficial exercise if you are low body fat percentage and have well developed abs and legs. it will make it appear that your abs are continuous from your core transitioning into your legs. its also good for overall strength

Probably so, but if it bothers you that bad why not complain or build a home gym?
