Problem is, I don't want to impact my kids/wife. I am failing to see how living in a dense suburb is really good for anyone, however. I make more than most at my current job -- it is a dream job for my field. I would be walking away from a lot of money, but I already have enough to live a modest retirement for the rest of my life. I am trying to understand the pros and cons, but every day life in a busy rat race is fukking demoralizing. I really don't want my kids to go through this. Why am I even raising them here? Every win is just a ticket to the next burden.

With purchasing power dropping, we can't really go everywhere we want to; that was making a lot of this bearable. The locals are superficial and "gunners." Basically, I am surrounded by people that treat everything as a business deal or corporate ladder. Not sure I want these ideals passed to my children.

I am a seasoned technical professional, that's all I can say.

I will say, that sticking around here makes it hard to save. It feels like we're breaking even know when we were saving A LOT per month before....while still going on international trips.
