Who would have thunk it: More EV layoffs!
https://www.autoblog.com/2024/02/24/...altered-plans/
This time it's Rivian.
This is what happens when our Government tries so hard to push EV on the public.

Rivian makes good vehicles. Should've chosen a better name with lower prices.
Rivian suv is 95k+ and truck is 70k+. I can buy a g wagon or range rover for a little more or a King Ranch or F250. All have better power than the Rivian.
Traditional brands have quality expectations of 5-10+ years, these EV I expect only 5 years. With car prices these high, depreciation so fast, it's not worth the gamble.

Pretty much everyone that actually wanted an EV already has one. The only real market going forward is the government forcing them on us.

The EV industry is basically an example of an industry that governments desperately want the public to be a fan of that most of the general public wants nothing to do with.
I think EV sales hit a sales slump quickly because the early adopters were basically the only people who actually want an EV. It's a product that only appeals to rich city dwelling liberals, most of whom don't even drive a car.

Battery power sucks and it's going to become a massive environmental disaster when all those EV batteries start to expire. I mean the government already makes a big fuss about anyone trying to throw out basic electronics and AA batteries lol.
Even when recycled, rechargeable batteries eventually result in what is called "black mass" which is about 95% toxic waste they don't know what to do with.

They seem to forget that in order for most things to be popular they have to be two things.
1- affordable
2- convenient to use.
They know damn good and well these two things will sell cars but they insist on charging and arm and a leg for something thats a pain in the ass to use.
Thats the kiss of death for these things.
If a car company made an electric car that got 100 miles and cost 10k, they wouldnt be able to keep them on the lot.
The magic number for mileage will be 500 miles per charge. until they can get there they will always be just a thing for geeks and liberals. They will never be mainstream where its a natural choice.

EV Batteries are currently 95% recyclable and will rise to a higher percentage over the years as tech improves. ONE company I took a look at just now will be producing enough recyclable material by 2025 to power 1 million EV's by 2025 and 5 million EV's by 2030 annually. Look up Redwood Materials if you care to educate yourself. It's founded by a former Tesla employee. The supply chain will eventually achieve a closed loop of battery material. That can never happen with traditional engines.
Also, all the best and brightest Silicon Valley engineers are all in on BEV. The ex-CEO of Porsche North America recently left Porsche to join Rivian. Porsche is arguably the epitome of a street-legal ICE performance car. The ex-senior exec of hardware at Apple who oversaw the ipod, ipad, iPhone, etc. also just left Apple to join Rivian. The thing about tech is it gets exponentially cheaper over time as tech improves. This can never happen with ICE's.
