It's becoming more and more common that we are getting what would have been PPV's in the past that are just trash barely better than an old episode of raw.

It's allowing things like reigns to hold the title and defend it 3 times a year because they don't need to sell PPV's anymore because they are "premium live events"

Compare that rubbish yesterday to NO way out 2002 the equivilent ppv from that year.

and the final 3 matches were....

Rock vs Undertaker

Kurt Angle vs HHH number 1 contender match

Chris Jericho vs Stone Cold for the undisputed title

Nowadays it's too much to ask for even Seth Rollins to defend the glorified intercontinental title.

Tv rights are how the WWE makes money now, not ppvs. AEW is based on building to ppvs and are in more of a down trend than WWE.

Wrestling is probably never going to reach the Attitude levels of popularity again regardless of the business model.

Not entirely true. They keep holding these premium events in huge stadiums and sell 50k - 60k tickets @ $200 a seat average that’s $10-12 million per show. It’s like having multiple WM type crowds more than once per year. That’s just ticket sales. More people = more $ for parking, merch, food, etc..

Sure, but it also costs a lot of money to rent out a stadium too. So the attendance is not a net profit (also there are always comped seats for sponsors and local media for advertising the event at the big events, so you have to subtract those from the attendance to calculate the gate). Obviously, the gates and merchandise, and sponsorships are alternative sources of income for them.

However, the Netflix deal they just agreed to for Raw is 500 million dollars. So it’s not close.

Until subjective creative worth outweighs actual dollars and cents (Which WWE is RAKING in), this conversation means nothing.

I feel they are saving big matches and big cards for big PPV's only..like Wrestlemania, Summerslam and Saudi events.

gotcha, we judge the business on how we remember it as kids instead of by revenue, tickets, merch, production, etc etc etc. yes.
