What was so bad about "Napoleon"?

One of the best actors, pretty big story, what make it suck? I haven't seen it.

It wasn't bad. Its just that "period pieces" dont' have the pop culture flair and appeal that a mindless blockbuster would have.

It bit off more than it could chew. They tried to cover 20 years of a very politically fluid time in 3 hours. So you start finding yourself asking "who is Robespierre", "who is this Tallyrand guy", etc, and Napoleon just like fukks off and attacks Egypt for no reason. There's no sense of cause and effect. Things just fukking happen because history said they needed to happen.

Haven't seen it but I heard they made him into a useless cuck and Josephine a girl boss. Title should have been Josephine and her cuck.

Haven't seen it, but it sounds like the obsessed over Josephine and Napoleon trying to shag her. Made Napoleon into a cuck when he was not.

If true, then they fukked it up just like they do most of these movies based on historical figures

That part wasn't too far off. He really was a gigasimp for Josephine, and she really did just kind of use him.

He went into weirdo pussyhound mode after contracting syphilis, which would have been an interesting twist to throw into the film.

I just finished it this morning. Agreed OP, loved the movie and loved
Joaquine Fenix.

But just cause Napolean was played by a good actor doesn't mean Napolean was a good person.

He revolted and freed France from Great Britain but why the fuk is he going over all the way to Russia to conquer it.

His own ego killed millions.

English man directing a film about a French leader leads to unconscious seething. The film oozed it. More time was spent on Josephines cunny hair than the battle for Moscow.

A war with Russia was either gonna happen one way or another, ignore the Continental System, ignore the UK, ignore all the countries that still had a monarchy.

All I'm saying is Napoleon's ego was detrimental. He ignored all advice from his closest advisors before facing the largest army ever assembled as a result.

This is his ego: when becoming king some guy has to place the crown on the new king's head. But Napoleon thought no one was worthy enough so he did it himself.

And yet so many things he implemented, are still being used in France today.

The talking scenes were just boring

Too much of that and not enough epic fight scenes

It’s about napoleon who won like hundreds of battles and there’s like 3-4 battle scenes in the whole movie

It wasn’t a bad movie necessarily just disappointing and didn’t live up to the hype

Also not his best performance

Most critics and historians hate the film because he was supposedly extremely intelligent, competent, and charismatic. The movie made him look weak, emotional and not leader like at all.

I think it was because it was disjointed, boring and awkward. Felt less like a movie and more like a collection of scenes. Battle scenes looked nice but too few and far between. Political sections had little exposition so it required historical knowledge but if you had that, it was inaccurate and liable to annoy.

Tried to cram too much into the movie and makes Napoleon look like some incel loser with no charisma, and IRL he wasn't.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

Too much sex in the movie tbh. Too much relationship focus. Some things that were exaggerated or historically inaccurate, but that's to be expected.

Agreed with people who said that it was trying to cover too much history in a single movie, could've been better as a TV mini series instead with the right funding and publisher/studio.

Agreed with the miscer who said that it's probably inaccurate his lover dominated all his decisions in life.

Worth watching once though. I'm someone who didn't know CHIT about Napoleon, outside of being a short dictator.

Yeah that was the problem I had with it, it just went all over the place and seemed to just really gloss over and skip past a lot of very important things and focused too much on his love relationships.
